Pupy crates

I've been advised to get a crate for our puppy. Having researched it seems a good idea for the pup and the house! I was told to avoid black ones as rust and the coating comes off?

Does anybody have a black one and can recommend one that doesn't rust etc.

Also, what age can you normally sto using crate and start with a be ? Thx v much.

I guess it depends on whether your dog is a chewer.
Mine were paper shredding bastards and nothing was safe. I have a huge XXl crate that I bought off Amazon. Still black, non rusted and intact.

I'd start crate training straight away. Bed, toys, maybe food/water bowls if big enough. I'd also recommend covering the crate with a blanket to make it dark, cosy (sp?) and den like.

I've only just stopped using a crate as we rearranged the front room and don't have the space anymore. Both dogs are snoring on the sofa next to me!

I have always had black crates and I didn't notice any rust until we moved to a house with a vinyl floor. Rust marks on it now. Sad

You can start crate training right away. Jean Donaldson's book 'The Culture Clash' is a must read for new dog owners and has a section about crate training.
