I'm 17 weeks today and I have two 10-year-old Jack Russells. On the whole they're fine with kids and I'm not overly worried to their potential reaction to the nipper. However, they are total nightmares whenever the doorbell goes (or even if someone deigns to walk past our house) and I'm dreading the inevitable waking-baby-with-crazy-manic-barking-every-5-mins.
I did think of getting those collars that emit a puff of air when they bark? Any thoughts? Or, in fact, any better ideas?!

My son was and still is (16 months now) able to sleep through dogs barking! Maybe try introducing a 'be quiet' command like 'that'll do' and reward for calm, quiet behaviour.

Oh and congratulations by the way!

DD often as a new born slept in the bouncy chair next to a two year boy banging his toy hammer on the laminate floor. They appear to either be sleepers - nuclear war could break out without disturbing them or non-sleepers - the wind blowing wakes them up . If you get a non-sleeper I think the dogs will be the least of your worries, but it is easily sve by putting notice or door asking visitors to phone on arrival at door to save whole door bell thing.
Congratulations fingers crossed for a sleeper.

Thanks both. Am keeping everything crossed for a sleeper. 'Be quiet' commands tried, tried and tried over the past 10 years but doorbells are apparently just too exciting. I suspect the puff-of-air collar may be just as pointless! Still gonna give them a try though.
Will def try the notice on the door though, hopefully that will reduce the occurrences. DP also had an idea of getting a bell like they do in recording studios - one which is connected to a light, rather than a bell. I like the sound of that - although I'm already laying bets as to how long before the little gits twig that the light means there's someone at the door!
