I'm sure some will say " well how long is a piece of string?" but would like some reassurance that I'm doing the right thing.

The cut was about an inch wide v-shaped and was a flap of skin/fur. We have been to the vet, she redressed it, was very happy with me to continue dressing every 3 days and preferred to avoid stitching if possible. He's had a course of antibiotics.

So 10 days after the intial injury the flap and wound has definitely closed to a 0.5cm cut which although is not bleeding it is still moist, i.e shows blood on swabs while cleaning and redressing. It is very clean and doesn't smell so I'm confident there's no infection, but just a bit concerned that it's not dried up yet, - having said that it's had to be covered all this time.

What do we think, do I persevere or go back to the vets who will anesthetise, recut and stitch? Obviously I am hoping you'll all say that actually it sounds like it's healing well Grin

Oh and I should add he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort with it.

I think (nurse not vet) that sounds good going, tbh. If the edges meet nicely, and the flap isn't showing any signs of infection (redness, heat, swelling, pain, puss), then blood is a good thing, because it's the blood cells that clot to make the scab.

Also, depending on where it is, FentonPup will be pulling at it every time he moves, so it won't be able to just sit and do it's thing. It will gradually close.

it took 2 weeks for pimmsdog to close a cut on his paw, he cut his pad then chewed at it a couple of days later when left in his crate for an hour. The only thing our vet said was to keep an eye that another cut didn't appear which could be the stick the caused the cut trying to work its way out of his paw (we were confident that there was nothing in his paw but you never know). His cut was only small so guess Fentonpup might take longer as I recall that his cut was quite big :)

Give Fentonpup hugs from us

Thanks Lougle, it's on the front of his hind leg at the bend above the paw, so yes it's getting quite a lot of movement all the time.
