Do we get a new puppy?

DH and I have got a black lab and a vizsla, both 7yrs. I'm on mat leave with a 7mth old and we have DD1 aged almost 5.
Dogs get fab walks daily with me. When I'm back at work we have excellent dog walker who does midday walk. She also takes our boys when we go away.
Anyway, a v good friend has had a litter of springer pups. 3rd generation and I've known grandmother down. Fantastic nature, very trainable etc..
We've been offered the last dog. I'm sooooo tempted! WWYD? Take him or not?
I'm eminently sensible and can think of lots of reasons why we should/shouldn't. DD walks with us and loves her "boys" and totally understands commitment etc.. We're moving to a bigger house soon too.
So, what impact would a third dog have? Lab and vizsla are well trained and ridiculously easy. Would I be mad?
Help me decide please!

ooh, just remember all the chewed up things.

And no matter how laid back and good your current dogs are, a new puppy will change the dynamic somewhat. My very good 9 yo heeler hated having any competition from foster dogs we'd had. She lost all her good skills because she was so afraid he would get something (love, treats, the ball) and she wouldn't.

I love puppies and knowing the breeders and the parents and all that is about the best situation you can have to get a pup you'll know becomes a good dog. If you had to get another, this sounds like a good dog to get.

But the transition could be ruff rough!

I know of an MNer who got a springer puppy when she was expecting DC1. She really regretted it because the dog was SO crazy-bonkers and escaped from their garden a few times, and the MNer fell over while chasing her once (while pg still!)

BUT on the upside, her DS and the dog are best friends now, the dog follows him everywhere and sleeps next to his cot.

At the age your youngest is I wouldn't get a puppy, especially one as hyper as a springer. And I speak as someone who got a dog in January when DD was 7.5mo. Ok admittedly it was a retired greyhound but it's still a dog :o

We've had two springers, they're beautiful dogs, but very active, we lost the last one recently at 15 and she couldn't sit still at that age.

We have a puppy on reserve, but it's a Cocker, we wanted another spaniel but a steadier calmer dog we can take out and about more easily.

TBH 3 dogs seems a lot to me.

I bet they're really lovely though.

I've had a sensible think and we're not getting it. Hopefully mum will have another litter in a couple of years and then we'll snap one up.
Not so much worried about an active dog but it does mean I can give DD2 proper attention and then puppy attention in the future.
Thanks for replying - you really helped me consider things.

No problem Minstrels, fwiw I think you made the right decision, I imagine it would be very difficult to devote enough time to both puppy and baby each.
