MIGHT BE TAKING ON A 16 WEEK OLD LABRADOR - ANY ADVICE!

we are very excited, but getting the jitters about how unprepared we might be. He has come from a breeder but his owners have returned him after 4 weeks. because the daughter did not like him Confused He is housetrained but has apparently received no training from his previous owners. His breeder is going to keep him for a week to settle back in and another week to give him some training. We are going to visit him in a week to make our decision. What should I ask her?

Hip scores can very easily be checked on the KC website - as can all other necessry health tests. All you need is the registered name of the Dam and Sire and a little bit of time.

Documents can be forged/faked, but the KC website has accurate information available to check.

Thanks all, there is no concern for his hip, elbow, eye scores as these are all available to me. The breeder really is reputable, I have no doubt.

All change here Sad. We are now not taking on the pup. The breeder says he is very nervy around men and will need a very firm hand with regard to setting boundaries. She has advised that he would probably be best with an experienced owner, which I am not, rather than a novice. Also, given that he is now coming up for 5 months, he is a lot bigger and apparently very bouncy and nippy ( I would expect this anyway but would prefer to have 'grown' with a pup than bring one already at this stage into our family). Onwards and upwards though. Am now starting a search for another breeder and also looking at rescue sites. We might even wait until next Spring now.

Oh no Sad, Although at least the breeder is thinking firmly of the dogs welfare.
