Would you mail order dog treats?

Pretty much as the title suggests. If there were good prices, good ingredients and good variety would you order biscuits/treats off the net?

Yes. Why not?

PersonalClown · 21/08/2012 10:26

I do all the time.
I can find grain free treats online that I can't get in the big name pet shops here.
I order their food too as finding grain free food that doesn't have certain additives in it is a challenge.

DOoin because I want to work from home, just wanted to see if it was something that people would do Smile

depends on how secure the post landing area is from the dog....

speaks from experience of puppy shredding a telephone directory ALL over the hall!

bumpybecky · 21/08/2012 10:42

I've got a vision of graze boxes for pampered pooches now! weekly delivery of carefully selected treats :)

D0oinMeCleanin · 21/08/2012 10:45

Oooh bumpybecky tell me more.

everybodywalkthedinosaur · 21/08/2012 10:48

That's my plan Becky! I love baking and my basset will be a very willing taster

And they'd be tailored to your breed/size of dog if required

Yes I would for all 3 of mine. I already order one of the dogs food off line as it is almost impossible to find in shops. Variety would be important to me as all 3 of my dogs have different needs so therefore they all eat different foods. Being 100% British is something I quite like.

everybodywalkthedinosaur · 22/08/2012 08:07

Thank you Smile I've got a few recipes in mind, going to test them out on friends dogs (lots of different breeds and needs), and see how they get on. I've got SO many ideas! Just need the confidence to do it, even just a few replies has given me a boost so thank you. If it all goes well I'll be able to cut down my days at work and work from home more, which would be perfect, and I'm sure my basset will love being official taster! Watch this space.... Grin

My only worry would be the shelf life of "homemade" treats. If I buy things like that online I want to buy in bulk to save on P&P.

lifesabeech · 12/09/2013 21:20

Biscuits will probably keep better if it is is a paw print cello bag

mrslaughan · 13/09/2013 06:46

Yes - if they were natural and ddog liked them.
Keep us posted!

I don't want to put a dampener on your idea, but having seen some businesses fail I thought I'd play Devil's Advocate ... I often buy home made treats for my dogs at shows. I never buy that many as they need to be served fresh - although some have advised that I can freeze them. P&P for even a small package is now a couple of quid and you'd need to ensure that that packages were fairly waterproof. Would they fit through letterboxes or would people need to be in to receive them? Do you have a Post Office close by or would you need to drive there to post (each day?)? There are LOTS of people making home made dog treats (see lots of local ones at the various shows). I think there are some laws regarding making food at home to sell, but I don't know what they are, I'm sure Google will. Would you realistically be able to tailor dog treats for individual dogs if the business took off? I'll stop now ... but wish you luck if you decide to go ahead.

thegriffon · 13/09/2013 08:23

Yes, always looking for additive/grain free treats at a reasonable price. I don't think short shelf life would be a problem as treats can be frozen.
