Keeping the plastic cone on...

My dog Baisey has just come back from having a lump removed from her mammary glands.

During the car journey she managed to remove the plastic cone, so far she's not gone near the wound.
Is it worth distressing her and trying to get it back on or should I just keep an eye on her? ATM she's dozing and I really don't want to disturb her but I can't see her moving anytime this evening tbh..

I'd put it back on before you go to bed. If you are keeping an eye on her she'll be ok without it at the moment. You can use her collar or a piece of bandage to fasten it. It needs to be tight enough that she can't slip it over her head (you can usually adjust the actual cone so the neck hole has a smaller diameter if necessary) but you must be able to fit 2 fingers widths between the collar/bandage and her neck.

Thank you messtins. I'll try that. Smile

On the advise if my vet I put a baby grow on my dog when she was spayed. Stopped her touching her stitches and she wasn't stressed by the collar. She did look slightly ridiculous in her hot pink baby grow. I don't know what breed of dog you have though!

Thanks Chickens, my dog is a staffy! It's a shame ive recently just given away all of DD's old babygrows, some of them werequite large we may have been able to get away with it!

my dog (also a staffy) just won't tolerate a plastic cone. he had to have one last year and he hated it so much i went to the pet shop to get an inflatabe one.....to find they didn't have it in his size.

i googled for alternatives and ended up using a towel - it worked really well and he didn't mind it at all. in fact the daft thing seemed to like having it on!

if you google 'dog cone towel' there is a youtube video showing you how to make a collar from a towel.
