I am only down the road from you Eve, having seen your photo I am seriously considering hopping on a bus and Dognapping Grin

CakeBump · 15/08/2012 22:49

Is there always a bit of a dog that might eat the baby?

Sorry I'm probably going straight to hell but I pmsl at this :)

I have a 5 year old spaniel and am expecting DC1 in November. Obviously I'm hoping at all goes smoothly....

Fab thread though OP....

LtEveDallas your dog is smiling in that pic.

My dog smiles too.

Got Dog when DD was 3, I trust her (DD) as she has been taught how to interact with and respect our Dog (and other dogs) I trust Dog because of this and because Dog is trained.

We've all snuggled together on many occasions and when DD was 4 ish, she would use Dog as a pillow and they would have naps together.

The pics are very cute.

I don't think this thread required 'education' and pearl clutching though. I wonder why, when such awful circumstances are prevalent in one's life, you would come and piss all over the thread? Hide it. That isn't me belittling your issues by the way, that is me saying 'hide it, don't cause yourself upset'.

If I vocally took umbridge with every thread I found offensive/not to my taste...well, I'd probably implode in a vat of rage.

Love the Rottie trying to be a lapdog. I have one of those :)

We've allowed BearDog to interact with a small baby like that (DH's nephew). There was no squashing involved, and he was very gentle, just sniffing him calmly and lying down curled around him. I honestly don't think it was a dangerous situation.

I would not have let my older dog do the same thing, as he's not used to babies (as far as we know), has been known to nip, and is wobbly on his legs. It depends completely on the individual dog.

NB: No children or animals were harmed during these pictures. The pink duvet, sadly, was not so lucky Sad RIP pink duvet cover.

The white dog rolled in fox poo again today, so I am not inclined to agree on the cuteness.

On the bright side I had to go and collect dd1 so DH was lucky one who got to remove it all. I have spent the rest of the evening being told how good the dog was for him and how I must be the problem. He might have a point were it not for the fact the dog doesn't mind being showered by anyone and never causes me any issues.

Our old boxer girl has always being incredibly gentle and protective of the human babies in her family - though obviously she was never left with them without an adult supervising.

All our kids have learnt to walk holding her collar or leaning against her, she instinctively knew she had to be cautious etc... They were very much her puppies - and in her eyes she was and still is a mother figure to them (she even went as far as producing breastmilk when they returned from hospital)!

This picture I assume is taken of a much loved pet who is being closely supervised whilst nuzzling a baby it is very comfortable with. I assume the adult behind the camera is watching things carefully, ready to intervene should the dog behave dangerously. It is not unlike some of our photos of our babies curled up asleep with our boxer...
