Bulleye rash after tick removal

I have just removed a tick from my Border collie's head and there is a very clear bullseye rash. Does this mean that he has Lyme disease and if so does he need immediate treatment eg tonight or can things wait until the morning?

Or am I just panicking..........

how did you remove tick?

I used an O'Tom Tic Twister

they don't always work, the head can still be left inside. the best solution is to smother this tick with vaseline as this suffocates the tick and it then withdraws naturally. if the head is still in you will need to see the vet.

I would call the vet to put my mind at rest.

A phone consultation won't cost anything and the vet will let you know if it is something to worry about - and will ask the right questions to establish if it is a problem or not.

I feel it is a bit to specific for Internet sprites to answer.

No it was all removed. I counted all the lovely legs and saw the mouth bits once I had removed the horrible nasty tick.

I always thought adding vaseline meant the tick regurgitated its stomach contents as it died and increased the risk of Lyme Disease. Either way they are horrid things my dog even has a seresto collar on and still got bitten!

Thanks all. I have phoned the vet and we are going in tomorrow to get the antibiotics.
