Right

James Well Beloved gave her the shits

Put her on Burns, fantastic reaction to the food.

Have since been told she is going to be friffing huge and she needs to be on large breed food like Burns extra. Basically she needs the right food for her joints etc.

I notice that the Burns extra states at 6 months to give one meal of extra one one of adult.

If that's the case will it not be better for her and certainly better for my bank balance if I simply switch her to Skinners Field and Trial Puppy till 9 months and then Skinners Field and Trial?

I know it's cheap, but lots of people enthuse about the quality, and it certainly looks like I am not going to have weight issues with her Grin

How much Burns are you feeding then?

She is a bit little for her age - but of course, that might well be dictated by her build. That's something only you can decide really - do add a photo if you'd like though and I'll look.

Try swapping her to Fish4Dogs puppy food. It really is fantastic - my youngest has always had it and she is the best condition pup I've ever had. It is also not such a lean food as Burns.

Having said that, don't forget that puppy food is a relatively new thing. We always used to just feed dog food and it worked perfectly well. If you want to stick with Burns, I would buy a bag of Canine Extra and mix it 50/50 with the Mini Bites. It will do her no harm and will get some extra calorie and nutrition in without the bulk - too much food in quantity will result in a runny bum and other troubles.

That's a good idea about the photo Daisy, Thankyou.
I'll try later.

She genuinely seems fine to me. But the vet has managed to make me doubt myself now!

She is lean - but many pups are at that age. I can't see her ribs protruding - can you feel her spine easily? Puppies go from skinny to plump in a matter of weeks too. I really don't think she is too thin.

I think many vets are so used to seeing chunky show bred and sometimes just plain fat Labradors that they aren't used to seeing a lean dog. One of my vets tried to insist I put more condition on one of my girls - just because he was used to whopping great show labs. If I had, she would have ended up far to heavy for her build.

Trust yourself. You should be able to feel her ribs as though they are covered by a thin blanket of flesh. Covering like a sheet would be too little; like a duvet, far to much.

I really think it might be worth trying Fish4Dogs with her. It is very well known that Burns keeps dogs skinny, and some dogs do better on a different ration. Ask for a sample from your pet shop.

I have just spoken to Fish4Dogs they no officially are the worlds nicest company. They are sending samples and a puppy club discount so if it suits I get a discount Smile

Thanks for looking Daisy, I feel better now.
