Neighbour dog attacked my mothers dog!

My mother who is in her 80's and has cancer and is a little frail and is very anxious has an elderly anxious whippet. She was walking by someones house when an Airedale rushed out and bit the whippet dog on her back. My mother panicked and screamed and the people rushed out and removed the dog. My mother took the whippet to the vet and the injury cost £100. She went and spoke to the neighbour who were rather threatening (she lives in a very nice area) and said my mother was making a fuss about nothing! Other neighbours have advised her not to do anything in case their are repercussions!!??
My mother is completely dependent on this dog terrified something will happen to it and very upset I'm really annoyed about this and was thinking about informing the "dog warden" (I don't live anywhere near her) do such people still exist and would they intervene?

There are dog wardens still, but they may be more about dog control, rather than one attack. Might be worth phoning local police for a chat with the community officer?

I'm not sure if there is much you can do Sad, yes the dog should not have been out the front on its own (even more so if its likely to bite other dogs), you might be able to report it but i doupt much would be done (other than the ownersd getting a talking too), she mightbe able to report them through the council (im not sure). Hope your mums dog makes a full reccovery, vets bills are always huge, it sounds like she got off lightly (last month my cat cost me £500 after being injured). Deffently try and report it as next time the dog it attacks may not be as lucky Sad.

i would contact the local council and ask if they have a dog warden, even if they can not do anything now at least they have the dog and the address on record if anything like this happens again or they may already have details if there have been previous problems...huge hugs for your mum and her poorly whippet
