Puppy in London

Got to take my 5 month puppy to London for 3 weeks, 2 bed flat. Freaking me out a bit. Can anyone suggest good places to walk her around earls court area. Also train travel, do I put her in travel crate? Thanks.

Take a look at the A-Z for parks etc. You'll need to carry lots of poo bags as many of your walks will involve pavements! If the dog is small enough, you'll be about to carry her in the tube and bus. You will have to carry the dog down any escalators. I think I have taken at least one of our dogs on London public transport, certainly in the bus. It's a good opportunity for socialisation! There is nothing per se about London which is any different from any other urban area, except that it's bigger! There are lots of parks around.

Hyde Park is about 1.5 miles away, walking, and Holland Park is even closer. Once you've found your feet, all 6 of them, the world's your oyster card

I took my pup to London recently. He was fine on the train there but hysterically terrified on the tube. You rarely see a dog on the tube so maybe they usually are scared.

my dog is very happy to go on the tube, but she's been used to it from a very young age. I think that's what probably makes all the difference...

I have horrible image of me on one side of tube door and puppy on the other!!
She went in a lift for first time yesterday and was quite cool with that.

Are there any good books/maps which outline suitable places for dogs?
I know there are ones for kidsGrin

Richmond park and wimbledon common are heavenly - southwest London works really well for people with dogs. a little way from Earls Court but not that far.

Hyde Park is nice, always lots of dogs around. If you go two stops on the District Line to South Kensington it's a short walk from there.

I've taken BearDog on the Tube, and he was fine. Would not do it when it's crowded, but then he's big (if it's a small pup you can pick up/put on your lap you should be fine).

Thanks. I like walking around Hyde park so having dog now will make it better.

Hi there, this will probably help you find places that will take puppy to eat/drink etc. uk.cesar.com/paws-in-places/default.aspx. I second the Holland Park idea, and there are lots of pubs/restaurants in kensington that take dogs.

Don't worry about a crate on the tube, as long as its normally fairly well behaved you can just pick the puppy up to get on/off and on the escalator, and either put it at your feet,on your lap or on the seat (on a coat or whatever) next to you for the journey. we've never had any issues with our now 10 month old mini poodle.

Having said that, maybe a crate will be useful in the flat to have a safe zone. Really depends on what puppy is used to. hope this all helps!

Thank you. I will have a look at the website. She has been for her first grooming session today. So she is now looking sharp for her London debut!Wink
