Is it possible to train dog to ignore (obviously not completely)? Walked him at school run time today for the first time lots and lots of children and he was excitable yo say the least lol. What's the best way to deal with this :))

just keep doing it again and again, he will soon get use to it.

We've worked with our two to stop them getting very excited around people, or other dogs - and it's so useful that they're calm and don't rush at people or other animals. I can enjoy relaxed walks off lead without worrying about them running over to people, children, horses etc or running across a road to greet another dog. They're obviously allowed to play with other dogs - but only when we're close up & they're told it's OK - that's to avoid them seeing another dog in the distance & doing that sprinting off to say hello thing.

For us it was about consistency and gently/calmly using commands, distracting them or using recall to keep them with us if off the lead, or sensible when on the lead so that they learnt not to run, jump or tug towards other people or animals.

Granted we've got breeds which are traditionally considered to be easy to train (Lab & Goldie) but they got the hang of it pretty quickly. They're 2 yrs old now and gorgeously happy, sweet & sensible - I'm so proud of them. Good luck with your training.

Second what's already been said. Consistency with whatever command word you use - we use 'leave' - and reward for good behaviour. Also, pre-empting hazards ahead so that you can say the command word before your dog has noticed the child, people, cat or whatever ahead. Works far better than trying to get an already excited dog back to you.
