Hi.
My dog hasnt been drinking since monday. Was not eating but has started up again.

Been to vets on tues and today, she is old and because of her age they refuse to test as it is age.
She is passing urine.

I have had her 10 years and.want her to get well. Does anyone have an idea of whats wrong?

If no improvment this weekend, she will go back to the vets.

Thanks.elephants.

Good luck. I hope it goes well.

Signet2012 · 15/07/2012 23:31

Sounds daft - but does she know where her bowl is.

I only say this because my dog has been acting a little bit strangely lately, almost confused.

He had not drank for a while and I had moved his bowl to opposite end of the kitchen. When I pointed at it and said "whats that" He went over and drank it straight away, as if he was really thirsty. Now he walks past it a million times a day so it may of been coincidence but it seemed odd. Almost as if he didnt realise it was there?

Mind the day after he SAT in it and then jumped up when it spilled all over so he may just be reallllly stupid.

daisyrain · 16/07/2012 07:39

Good luck at the vets x

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 16/07/2012 16:31

She knows where her bowl is.

Vet says its old age and a kidney infection. She has prescribed antibiotics and we go back on friday to see if they have worked. If not, we may be looking at putting her too sleep :(

Have you tried syringing water into her? I got an oral syringe and just gently squirted water into my poorly pup's mouth - she was happy to swallow, just couldn't be arsed to lap it up herself.

My guys absolutely adore drinking from a hose pipe / water pistol, is that an option?

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 16/07/2012 18:07

Will try a water pistol

RedwingS · 16/07/2012 20:09

Hopefully the antibiotics will work! MrsZ's idea of a syringe/water pistol is a good one to get more fluids in her. Good luck.

daisydotandgertie · 16/07/2012 20:57

Is she eating wet food or dry?

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 16/07/2012 21:29

Dry food mainly. She isnt getting anywater.

Hope she gets better.
Would she lick some melting ice? Just lick though, ice might upset her tummy if eaten.

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 16/07/2012 21:44

Will try to see if izzie (dog) will lick ice. Its worth a try!

OP posts:
coffeeinbed · 16/07/2012 21:48

Don't let her eat it though!

MrsZoidberg · 17/07/2012 10:30

Why shouldn't she eat the ice?

My two girls are devils with ice - one goes mad if you go near the freezer and will happily crunch ice cubes and they both smash the ice on the pond in winter and nick bits of it.

Now I'm worried that I shouldn't of done this.

(Sorry to hijack op)

coffeeinbed · 17/07/2012 11:01

If they are happy eating it, it's fine, but if OP's dog's fragile it should give her a runny tummy - my dog gets it after one too many.
So, I think for a happy healthy dog it's fine, but one that's unwell maybe not.

coffeeinbed · 17/07/2012 11:01

could not should

GrimmaTheNome · 17/07/2012 16:48

I'd really try making some wet food if she's not drinking at all - very plain and digestible.

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 17/07/2012 16:51

I went shopping and have bought wet food but she turns her nose up at it. Ab's hopefully working - went for a walk earlier and she seemed bit perkier!

Hi all.
Izzie was put to sleep this morning. Her kidneys failed and she was.going.blind.

I am so upset and i miss her.

GrimmaTheNome · 24/07/2012 20:31

Oh, I'm so sorry. Losing a dog is the absolute pits.

RedwingS · 24/07/2012 20:38

I am so sorry. RIP Izzie.

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 24/07/2012 20:41

Its horrid. Izzie was one of a kind

Scuttlebutter · 24/07/2012 20:42

So, so sorry to hear this. You must be missing her terrribly. At least she was able to go peacefully, with you beside her.

Run free dear Izzie xx

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 24/07/2012 20:47

She is healthy now. I am happy she is no longer in pain but i miss my little pup.

missymoss · 28/07/2012 23:39
