being in the park this morning was like the first few times at playgroup when you don't know any other mums and you're desperate for your kid to make friends...!! all the other dog walkers (lots) are standing around chatting in little groups or striding purposefully along with their sensible big dogs. pup is yearning after any other canine, any size or shape, and no matter how off-putting the body language. she would bounce all over anyone and although we are working on recall, no chance of getting her back if she has found someone to run after. I feel like the other dogs are raising an eyebrow, 'don't look now, it's that dorky fluffball coming again'. I'm stalking the ones who look the right size and age to play. none of my mum friends have dogs (think I'm mad), and I've called two puppy classes, both the trainers off with injuries at the moment.. oh well, once we've apologised to enough folks maybe we'll make some friends.

where are you sununu? my lab is great with pups, so patient and well bahaved! he'll be your pups friend....

tooearlytobeup · 19/09/2012 23:06

If you say where you are there may be someone near who can meet up.

Dont rule out the bigger dogs for friends either. When my dog was a pup he much preferred playing with dogs over double his size, they were generally very tolerant, much more so than the ones his size

Where are you? I've got a puppy (Italian Greyhound) who's desperate for new friends/partners in crime. I'm also walking my older Italian, who's definitely calm enough for a puppy (she seems to enjoy being used as a punchbag/slide/thing to climb over). Go on your local page, and see if anyone near you has a dog- and ask for a meet up.

If you are local I can throw a lab or two at you to play with! The younger two will play with anything, the old man will raise his eyebrows though, but he is old and grumpy and we can just ignore him!

I'm in county durham. `

I so know what you mean! Although i agree with a previous poster that you shouldnt rule out big dogs as playmates! I've finally made a couple of walkie mates after 4 months! If you are near here, happy to walk out with a fluffball!!

horseylady · 20/09/2012 21:43

Oh it's great!!! Don't worry about sizes, just let them meet and greet!!! I was saying at work today so many people speak to you when you have dogs! Just takes time to meet people!! Keep going and you'll get to know them. Well the dogs name, I still don't know most of the humans lol

EyesNEars · 20/09/2012 21:47

Agree with horseylady. At our training club we only know each other as ....'s mum/dad. Like having toddlers again! I love to see a puppy on our walks and so do my labs. Walk my way.

aw, you're all lovely, thanks. we're in East London and actually since I first posted I've had plenty of doggy chats and pup has had some great romps, with all shapes and sizes.

see you out there!
