Hope you can help me. I have a CKCS (pic on my profile) who has gone into hospital today with congestive heart failure. They are trying some treatment on him but he may not respond and the vet made it pretty clear that if he doesn't respond, he should probably be pts.

He's been unwell for a while but has gone rapidly downhill the last couple of days.

My question is if I do need to have him pts, how do I handle it with my boys, who are 5 and 2? Should I get them to say goodbye to him or not? Not sure how to handle it. They know he's not well and I was in bits this morning unfortunately so they know Mummy's worried about the dog but that's it.

thank you

He's only 6 :(

I think you're right about not being specific about pts if that's what happens.

Trying to get hold of DH who is at work and has no idea :(

Really sorry to hear that flowery. I have everything crossed for you that he pulls through. He's a beautiful boy btw!

He is gorgeous isn't he? Thanks Panda

Good news is I've had a call from the vet, who is an old friend I was at school with as it happens. He has responded to treatment and is wagging his tail again :)

Plan is to continue him on his drip today, then I need to phone again later and if it continues to go well he may be able to come home tonight :)

Then he'll be on more medication at home and we will review over the next few days. He has a serious ongoing heart condition so it's not a case of curing, more of stabilising, so if he stabilises and is happy, we're fine, if his quality of life isn't high enough on this new medication, then we'll have a difficult decision to make.

but looking better at the moment anyway.

and DH had got himself on a train home before I had the call from the vets, and will be here soon as well :)
