We recently had to say good-bye to our beloved elderly collie and have decided to get another dog as a companion for our young collie who is missing her old friend terribly.
We have found a lovely dog, a very cheerful, ball mad, 2 year old springer, who we will be collecting next week. In the meantime, I am trying to get things organised to make the move from his foster home as easy as possible. So, I would be really grateful if you knowledgeable mnetters could advise on the following:
(1) Dog Bed - we still have our old collie's bed, but would our new dog be uneasy about sleeping on a bed with another's dog's smells. I have washed the bed but assume a Springer's nose would still pick up our old collie's "odeur".
(2) Food - I understand from the fosterer that our springer is underweight and has a bit of a "dodgy" tum, although he loves his food. Acting on the advice of her vet, she has put him on "Chappie". I raw feed my young collie as it is the only thing which agrees with her gut and would like to do the same for our springer. So, how do I get him from "Chappie" to raw? I would prefer not to feed him Chappie at all because if our collie gets into his bowl (not beyond the realms of possibility!) the consequences for the ozone layer will be catastrophic!
Should I go cold turkey with our springer and raw feed from day 1 or should I get in a bag of Orijen/ Fish4Dogs and ease his transition to raw?
Any other tips gratefully received!
