Leaving the dog to go to work

Hi,
I was just wondering what others do about this. Basically we have a 12 month old dog who we rescued 2 months ago. I only work 2 days a week at the moment so it has been fine. On my two work days my fil comes over one day and spends the afternoon with him, and on the other day a friend goes in and has lunch with him and takes him for a walk. On both days he gets a long walk before we go to work.
However my dream job has just come at a school. It's term time only which would be brill for the kids. But it is 30 hours which means i'd be working 5 days a week. I'd have to do 9.15-5.15 for three days and 10-3 for the other two. On the long days i'd take him for a pre work walk and be able to get home for a lunch time walk, and on the short i'd take him after i'd driopped the kids at school. He does sleep a lot of the day at the moment so i ikind of think it would be ok. But I don't know. I don't feel very comforatble about it, What does everyone else do about this? I would really appreciate some advice on this. Might be a case of right job, wrong time. As maybe his age comes in to it and he'd be happier left when he's older. What do people think?? Many thanks Sarah

I'm on maternity leave at the minute but when I go back to work I will be working two full days in the week. On these days our dog will be going to the kennels across the road where because he is well behaved he will be free to potter about all day with the lady who owns the farm where the kennels are. We decided this on the basis that I'd not been at work since we had him so I didn't want to start leaving him for long periods of time.

there aredog walking/sitting services you could use. Now that you will be earnng more £ you could probably do that. That's what i'd do anyway. Bad timing really Sad

Don't put your job prospects on hold for a dog. You will regret it. I have. He needs a walk first thing, and lunch time, and then will be fine until you get home. If you can't come in at lunchtime get a walker to take him out. The vet will probably have cards for local walkers.

We have had to leave our dog and she is a n energetic springer.

She gets a 45 min off lead walk in the morning, a lunch time visit and play then kids with MIL are back at 3.30 for more play. We then take the dog out for an hour off lead after work.

She had settled in really well to this pattern , she has frozen kongs to occupy her and had taken to sprawling on the sofa but as ££££ got very tight here there was nothing else to do. £££ are too tight for a dog walker but the balance of no more than 4 hours alone in one stint seems to work.

She is a nightmare when we (DH and I) get back and desperate for a walk but I can't fault her for that!

I am getting up and hour earlier to make sure she gets a decent walk which in mornings like today's isn't a bother but when it's been pee-ing down and the dog is covered in mud.....not the best way to wake up!

I'm a soppy old git when it comes to dogs. Can't bear the thought of leaving her for long periods of time (she hates it). Am working on various self-employed plans so I can work from home instead. BUT if I had to go out full time I'd definately use doggy day care and factor it into the figures.
