Hi everyone! Advice welcome please from you experts or novices! I have a lovely boxer pup 8 weeks old and am trying to follow the Ian Dunbar Sirius training - its going great for the house training but she does not seem interested in chewing her chew toys no matter how inviting I make them- smeared with peanut butter s, she licks it and leaves it or just eats the treats and doesnt chew. She wants to chew soft things like my slippers or dressing gown but I don't want this. Any suggestions really very welcome. Many thanks x :)

Get her something soft of her own to chew. A soft toy or an old pair of socks.

I doubt her jaws are up to chewing anything meaningful yet, she is a proper baby, baby still.

Will try that but afraid she could tear bits off and choke?

It's really unlikely at her age. Mine have always had soft toys as well as others and it isn't the soft toys that have caused problems.

At her age, she just won't be into destructive chewing, she's not strong enough.

Watch her with it and see how it goes. She is definitely too little for chewing 'hard' toys. I'd also be a bit wary about peanut butter or anything else very salty for another few weeks, she's only been on solid food for a few weeks. A teeny bit of cheese spread instead maybe?

Try filling a kong with soaked puppy kibble to give her something to work at. It's not just about chewing a kong, it's also about teaching her to use her brain to get at her food. It's stimulating for them and makes their brains work a little. It'll have to be easy for her though at this age - she won't have much of an attention span for it yet.

Carry on trying to teach her to chew the right toys, she will be entirely different in 2 or 3 weeks!
