Disappointed - Rescue selected a different family

After a year of not having a dog (Sam the doxie was pts last year around this time at the ripe old age of 15) we're settled in our new house and ready to bring another dog into our lives.

I'm firm on my desire to go through rescue but the dog we were really interested in was the dog that everyone else was interested in and he's going to a different family - he had 6 applications!

I know the right dog will come along and we need to be patient but I don't want to be patient! I want a critter NOW! It's hard because DS is 4 and we've got to have a very child friendly dog.

The rescue group said we're approved. Just not for the dog we wanted. Which is aggravating. There was another dog there we were interested in but she was larger than what we expected (70lbs when we're looking more to 30 - 50lbs).

Just keep telling me to be patient please.

that is such a shame. We are looking at getting a rescue dog later in hte year. It must be very frustrating. Your dog will be along soon to claim you as his/her own. Patience is a virtue etc. etc.

Our current girl was the 3rd dog we went to see over a 6 month period of looking really hard (eg getting our name on the lists for the relevant breed rescues etc). I'd been researching rescues/breed preferences etc for 6 months before that too.

In total the hunt for our companion took a year, and she's been worth every day of the wait! Wouldn't swap her for the world.

My last dog lived till 18 - it can be an even longer term choice than you expect Wink so it's worth getting it right. I always feel so awful for those owners that do make an error of judgement with their choice.

The right dog for you WILL come along, you just have to hang in there a little longer.
