Dog insurance premiun doubled!

My Border Collie (aged 6) is insured with Sainsburys.

The renewal came through this morning and has gone from £19.95 a month to £33.40 a month despite there being no claims on it for a couple of years

So I am shopping around
I have done a search though previous posts but would like some up to date info on who everyone is currently using and what you are paying

My Spaniel is also insured through them and if his premium doubles then they will be asking me for about £50 a month for him Shock

Thanks

I'm with Greenbee (John Lewis) which comes highly recommended though I haven't claimed on it yet. If you've previously claimed on your policy, the condition you claimed for will be excluded from your new policy (as it's pre-existing). Could be a consideration for you. Pet insurance is getting really expensive.

56.00 p/m for my 9 yr old lab - it goes up a lot as they get older

My collie is 3 and I'm with pet plan. I was paying £19.66 but I've just had the renewal through the door and it's gone up 75p a month. I'm not going to quibble though as I can't be bothered today. I might feel differently on Monday and shop around, but I would be on the phone like a shot if they doubled it!

For my curly coated retriever i am with animal friends and i pay £21.34 per month (he has had 10k of claims and is a rare breed!).

For my lurcher i am with animal friends also and pay just under £17.00 per month. however my chi x is with tesco and i currently pay just under £11 per month.

I have only has the chi for a few weeks and already know that when her renewal comes up it will be at least £20 per month as that is what tesco do!!!! So she will be with animal friends and it will probably be around £15 per month.

mine are 5,4 and 1.

Are these policies whole of life?

I didn't check for this clause with my last dog stupidly and he became uninsurable once he got really old. Very frustrating cos with an old dog all those little geriatric niggles soon become very expensive.

I'm with the Halifax but will be changing in July as friends have had problems when they've had to make a claim so I can't recomend them.

Ease of claim and whole of life are worth paying a little extra for. (Not double though!)

I looked at animal friends and they looked good

There are so many conditions on the policies I'm sure they could refuse to pay out on such grounds as the dog has the wrong kind of fur as outlined in section 12 paragraph 62 part c Confused

Anyway I have chosen one now, (Purely Pets) but I may have to use another company for my spaniel when his renewal comes up as it looks as if he wouldn't be covered for recreation gundog club! Shock

I have a headache now!

bochead, my cur lies is for life, but the lurcher is per condition/year limit. The chi is per/condition/per year but she will have for life when switched to animal friends.

I work on the basis that lurcher are a bit 'tougher' and tend not to have lots of long term conditions but have lots of little things like paws that need stitching back together again but cost upwards of £350 per one!!

Self insure! Put that amount or more in a savings account every month or bi-monthly and you should have a nice lump-sum set aside in no time. Insurance plans are notorious for getting around pay-outs via "loop holes". Read the fine print and make sure they cover regular vet costs as well as emergencies. If you don't end up availing yourself of it fully then you've got a nice little nest egg set aside.

We were previously with m and s. And I rate them very highly in terms of payouts. Over 2 years and 3 ops, plus the complementary therapies during recovery they coughed up 13.5k for it lab. They were happy to pay vets directly.

They weren't cheap... 1st year they were 25, second 56 and when the renewal came in it was 89... I cancelled then as we knew we wouldn't be putting him thru anymore surgery if he had problems down the line.
