Fleas and a 9 month old baby - how do we get on top of it?

We've been fighting a losing battle against our dogs fleas for about 3 weeks.
We frontlined him last month, but possibly (according to DH) had not been keeping on top of the monthly dose before then.
We have packed the mutt of to MIL for a few weeks are vacumming the house twice daily and have sticky flea traps and have powdered the carpets a few times.
But the buggers won't give up!
We are going away for two days at the weekend - can I flea bomb the house before we leave or is it not advisable with a baby?
What else could we use - or is it just a case of doing what we are doing and hoping they give in soon?

we had a dreadful flea problem last year with our cat. We had to get a pest control company in in the end at a cost of £310!!!!! We went on holiday and the feckers bred and bred - it was horrific. LIke something out of a horror film. On our first night back at home there must have been about 50 fleas per leg as soon as I took my clothes off to get in to bed. ds was eaten alive and we had to stay in a B and B up the road (good job we live at the seaside!)

Have you thrown out all the dogs bedding etc? It is not easy to get rid of a big infestation when it happens.

For your dog, weekly baths and combing with a flea comb will help remove eggs etc if he has any. use a load of doggy conditioner on after the shampoo and it makes the eggs stick to the teeth of the flea comb. add a bit of garlic each day to his meal - fleas dont like the smell apparently.

As for Frontline, I was told by my vet that fleas are developing immunity to it and they dont use it any more, so it might be worth having a word with your vet about an alternative.

For the house, wash all your bedding and as much of the soft furnishings as you can - cushion covers etc. Vaccuming is good, make sure you do under furniture and along the skirtingboard and then treat with a spray or whatever you choose to use.

I would recommend a house spray from the vets, we used in our house it was brilliant, imo well worth the money irrc cost about £17-£18 but does a four bed house and lasts a year! good luck.

another good way to eradicate fleas is to pay for a professional carpet clean. It won;t cover soft furnishings but you can hoover and spray them.
