Cleo is a Staffie, 14 weeks old. We've only had her a week and a half so I know it's early days but she is widdling all the time.

Background is uncertain, we got her off of Gumtree (Hmm dodgy, I know), but once DH saw her he couldn't have left her there. She was left in her own mess and free to roam with a toddler Sad
Bloke said she was vaccinated and house-trained, but on arriving home it was obvious she wasn't, and we decided to restart her vacs. Has had a clean bill of health from vets.

She's a lovely dog, very nippy, but she seems to be really taking to her training.
The only problem we have is the weeing. She seems to do it when excited. She often refuses to walk outside with me to do a wee (I put her lead on and use a treat if she follows ATM) She also wees quite happily in her crate (door left open and closed) and I was told dogs don't usually pee in their bed space??? Confused

Any ideas would be welcome. Smile

Hello Stretch,

I would take her back to the vet and make sure she doesn't have a UTI. They can be very common and could well be producing this type of effect.

Secondly, make sure that when you are cleaning up, you are not using somethat smells to the dog like wee (this will encourage them to wee there again). If you go to PAH they have a variety of specialist cleaning products that will remove the smell for Cleo.

Keep going with the training on the lead for wees. This should be something you work on as part of a routine, so first thing in the morning, after breakfast, and every couple of hours through the day. Lots and lots of lavish praise and the odd treat when she wees outside. Make her feel she is the cleverest pup in the world when she does a wee outside. Keep going with this - it'll take a while but after a bit, it seems to click. There's lots of good advice on toilet training too on the puppy threads - might be worth a look. Smile

What scuttle said. Bear in mind that it doesn't look like she had the best of starts in her previous home, so you'll probably have to work a bit harder to undo some of that.
Good luck.

Thanks both.

She has a vacs appointment at the vets on thurs, is that too far away, shall I get her in sooner?

I don't think they harmed her at the previous home, definitely a bit neglectful, but she does have a kind of fear of her collar and being held by it. That's when she does most of her wees actually. I call her, hold her collar to attach lead and she wees. If I don't attach her lead, then she just runs off.

On the upside, she had a doggy playdate yesterday with next door's adult (fully vaccinated) staffie! Lots of mad running about and playful tumbling, she loved it and slept very wel!! Grin
