Baby is due any day.

I have a 2yr old doodle.

When I had my son (dc5), i fell apart, suffered severe pnd and rehomed one of my doodles, as he wasnt happy. we tried everything between boys birth and tom being rehomed 6months later so it wasnt a rash decision.

Anyway, I know I will get comments this time about the dog and new baby. The dog is going nowhere, as he is my fur-boy, and belongs here. Even with my pnd he has been a constant figure and walking him daily has helped me get better. I feel nervous without him, and my anxiety levels go up as well when he isnt about (recently went on holiday, he stayed with a friend, and i worried about the dog more than leaving the house empty).

so prepare me with witty answers to have ready for the usual 'are you keeping the dog/i dont think babies and dogs mix/its not safe/when are you getting rid of the dog'

"Oh no the baby's fine. Ralph prefers toddlers, much more meat on a toddler you see"

"Really, you think the dog is an issue? I had a feeling I'd have to rehome the tiger but I was gonna keep the dog"

Have an 11 week old DD and two dogs.

The most common comment is "gosh, you've got your hands full haven't you". I usually respond with either "no" or "here, have the baby".

The only time I've got cross was at a comment made by a older lady of "she can't cope with two dogs and a baby, no one can.........see, I told you so" as her off lead terrier went for my on lead lab and the ensuing fight nearly pulled me over Angry

How about "Come back tomorrow - I found a great wrap sling that fits fur-boy really well!" Or "I find that if I wedge the baby between fur-boy's back legs when he's lying down I can wedge the bottle between his front ones and I can go to the pub!"

Btw, "fur-boy" is actually the best thing I have heard all day and I will use drop it in a few times tomorrow and pretend that I made it up. Grin

Introduce your lovely furball as the Nanny

FashionEaster · 06/04/2012 22:00

And I meant to say your dcs are gorgeous!

Wolfiefan · 06/04/2012 22:04

Tell them not to worry as you have a crate for the baby. Well they can't ex

Wolfiefan · 06/04/2012 22:04

Bloody iPhone! They can't expect the dog to be caged surely?

Scuttlebutter · 06/04/2012 22:39

Congratulations on the imminent arrival! [busmile]

You could comment on the similarity between training dogs and children - plenty of exercise, fresh air, regular routines, clear boundaries, enough sleep, frequent worming and lots of healthy raw food. [buwink]

RedwingWinter · 06/04/2012 23:47

That's great misdee, I hope all goes well. I'm sure you can just laugh it off if people make comments like that.

signet2012 · 06/04/2012 23:53

"oh god no, I made that mistake last time! Definetely giving the baby up this time... won't fall for that one again!!!!!"

"I don't know, a dog is much easier, I mean social services had such an issue when I locked the baby in the kitchen whilst I went shopping, it had clean water and everything but noooooo not allowed to do that!"

"as long as I rub the baby in chicken gravy every day it will be fine, furboy HATES chicken gravy!"

suburbandream · 07/04/2012 09:00

love that one!

i do often say that ralph is a lot easier than the kids. i mean, after i walk him, feed him wetc, all he does is sleep.

aha!!

first comment today, as my pnd is back and have restarted my medication.

'you know what you should do, you should rehome your dog'

'why?'

'well he is an extra to care for'

'yes but when i walk him, i get peace ad quiet for an hour without the children'

why cant people understand that i actually ENJOY walking my dog? that i do like to walk him with my three little ones in the triple pushchair, that he adds to my life and doesnt detract from it at all?
