Toxacara

DS managed to get himself covered in dog poo yesterday while playing in my parents garden (mess had been cleaned up, and is regularly, but they missed a
small bit)

How likely is it that a healthy, wormed dog would have toxacara? DS got it on the back of his hands and think he may have wiped it across his face :(

We're off to the docs later for something else anyway, but I'm hoping that because the mutts are wormed v regularly that they wouldn't have it?

TIA

I honestly wouldnt panic , my ds actually ate some fox poo and after several frantic hours trying to speak to anyone who might be able to advise me ( pharmacist , vet , GP) the microbiologist at the hospital said that in a healthy child , ie not one with a supressed immune system , there really shouldnt be a problem. Hope that helps a bit Smile

This is exactly why everyone should worm their dogs regularly. Your parents do; he should be fine.

Thanks.

I was more worried because it looked like he'd rubbed it right into his eye (blergh).

Shortly after we had our new puppy, DS1 had a very sore eye and I spent ages googling and worrying because he is terrible at washing his hands and always rubbing his eyes. It turned out to be conjunctivitis but the GP said that toxocara is very rare, especially if the dog is healthy and wormed as you say. Hope you are feeling a bit reassured Smile

Thanks all. He's absolutely fine, of course :)
