Ok, recall training

I'm planning on attempting to recall train my greyhound :o no really, I'm serious.

He's pretty good anyway, at home he always comes to me straightaway if I call him.

Do I just treat him everytime I call him and he comes straightaway? Is that basically it or is there some complex science I need to learn?

Try to avoid recalling when you know he won't come, like if he's chasing a rabbit or something - you don't want to give him chances to ignore you. Also best not to recall at the end of a walk when you're going to put a lead on - just catch him without a recall. And never call him for something bad, like a bath.

that is very basixally it, do it constantly, when he is only a step away, make it become natural, she calls me I go there is food.

It's ok to just start doing this at home though, yes? There's nowhere round here where I can safely let him off lead with no recall which is why I'd like to train him. Can take him to MILs occasionally (mahoosive garden) but not too often as one of her dogs don't like other dogs and he has to be locked away.

We only have a small garden though.
