Would we be considered to rehome a dog? and if so what dog would be suitable?

I'm trying to persuade dh into letting us get another dog and i would love it to be a rescue dog, we thought about it a while ago but then decided not too but am now thinking about it again.

We have a 4 year old staffie bitch, she's lovely but very hyperactive, we introduced a cat into the home last year and they are best of friends (the dog mothers the cat, cleans it and sleeps with it), she has always been sociable but can get a bit too excited and playfull (more so with other staffies). She spends most of the day looking through the fence at the neighbours clollie and crying as she wants to go and play with him/her. She's very loving so i was thinking maybe a puppy so she can mother it, but on the other hand she's very playful and may beniffit from a bigger dog to put her in her place a bit (she's more wary of bigger dogs and less playful).

I dont want to go and buy a puupy, we bought her as a pup as a KC reg white staffie, she cost me a lot of money but clearly is not a KC reg and maybe not a full staffie, i would prefer a rescue dog but am worried they will turn us down as i have 2 young Autistic children and a mad Staffie, we are home most of the day and our garden and house is already dog proof. Do you think they would let us re-home a dog?

I don't see why not. As long as it was a dog that got along with children and other dogs. Your dog sounds friendly and as though she would get along with a companion. Think about the sort of dog she likes but isn't too over the top with, male or female? Bigger or smaller? But mainly the temperment of a dog that would suit her. My dog gets along with easy going others for instance, another terrier would probably hype her up too much, a calmer breed might suit her better.

She loves lurchers so was thinking maybe a greyhound (if its possable to get a cat friendly one), she seems better with bigger dogs, a lot calmer as she knows she's not top dog, i think another terrier would be a nightmare unless we had it as a pup which is a shame as there are so many staffies needing homes Sad

you should look on Many Tears. they have lots of ex breeding dogs who need tp be rehomed wiht a resident dog. they actually specify that in their blurb. They are bound to have staffies there and larger breeds too. Take a peep. good luck Smile. There is also a greyhound specific rescue

You can get cat friendly Greyhounds and Lurchers. I have a cat and foster for a local greyhound charity. You might have to go on waiting list as they are few and far between but they exist. I'd advise you contact more than one rescue to reduce the amount of time you'll be waiting.

I also have one mad, slightly aggressive terrier and one whippet who thinks she is a cat, two ferel children, no garden and a pt job that seems ft most weeks and they let me foster for them so I can't see why a similar charity would turn you down.

Yep I second you can get cat friendly greys, the place I got mine from has rehomed quite a few with cats and also house rabbits! So it is possible. We have a rabbit (outdoors) and sprocket just ignores her, but he's very interested in cats.

Greyhounds are lovely, I have a male grey and a female lurcher. We got them last year when our youngest child was 6 months old, and also foster for the rescue too (have another male grey at the moment). We also have 4 other children who are 6,5,5 and 4 so having two children definitely won't be a problem! You can definitely get cat friendly greyhounds, the rescue will assess the dog for this. Do you have a local greyhound rescue you could contact?

Have had a look on a few websites (re-homing centers) and there are so many dogs to choose from, have found a couple that may be suitable (a Staffie and a lurcher x), just need to convince dh now.
