....and washing and bags and basically anything fabric that is on the floor or on a chair or sofa.

Tell me what to do before I cut his penis off.

I have restricted him to the hallways when I am not in the house but as soon as any doors are left open he gets in there and pisses on whatever he can.

And my washing machine has just broken.

I am going out for a couple of hours to calm down and buy a new machine.
Any advice in the interim would be very welcome.

He gets praised and treats when he pees outside or on his walks. He is still marking. If anything it is escalating.
I have another dog who he is trying to dominate. Not sure if that is relevant or how to deal with it if it is.

my friend used this and it saved the dogs cock being cut off :)

How old is he?

It sounds to me like he is insecure. Is he peeing on everything when you are home too? How is he when he is left?

I think in the short term a DAP diffuser and crate training would help, but longer term work on building his confidence. I can guarantee he's not trying to 'dominate' your older dog. Most dogs that people think are behaving in this way are insecure.

AllOverIt · 21/03/2012 18:09

Everything midori said. Oh, and you can get a DAP collar too, so that when you're round a friend's house he doesn't feel the need to mark as much.

Also a quick trip to the vet to rule out any physical cause wouldn't be a bad idea.

How old is he?

Thanks all.
He is 8 months now. Having spent the afternoon thinking about it,the anxiety thing makes sense actually. My dh is away, my DD has been ill, I have been ill and my son has been having huge problems [sigh].
We are all stressed and anxious so I guess he is just going with the house vibe.

He is constantly worrying at my older dog which is what made me guess at him trying to assert himself. Puppy is a bischon with my big old softie dog is an old English. Pup nips at his ankles and jumps up at his ears and face. Big dog is pretty tolerant and they do play and keep each other company.

I have had to spend a lot of time at ds2s school and he has probably had less attention than he should. I will change that. His pissing all over the place hasn't helped with the amount of positive attention. I need to give him lots of opportunities to get positive attention. Now DD is better she can do more too.

Thanks for all the tips

He's about the right age for his testosterone surge. It'll make him a bit like a stroppy teenager. Have a read of this info sheet which might help explain what he's up to.

That, combined with anxiety is probably exactly what's up.

HillyWallaby · 22/03/2012 12:42

Right. (first of all, huge sympathy - been there and it's crap) Let's go through things a bit at a time.

The fabric fetish. did he ever have those absorbant pheromone mats which encourage them to pee in one place? Perhaps he is struggling to make the transition from mat to outdoors and still looks for something that has the feel of the mat underfoot?

Is he getting plenty of access to outdoors? Is he running to far flung areas of the house to wee away from the areas he usually sees as his immediate living space?

HillyWallaby · 22/03/2012 12:44

Does he do it when you are around? If so, one of those canisters of compressed air that makes a loud hissing sound should help him to stop if you can catch him right at the early stage then immediately take him outside and praise him for hanging on until he gets there.

Pagwatch · 22/03/2012 15:33

Ooh more help - thanks Grin

I am sure it is marking not peeing. He gets loads of access outside and still gets praised when he does his stuff outside. It is strategic peeing in areas he does not get regular access to.

I have upped the attention and reassurance and extended his walk a bit further this morning. I may have underestimated how much exercise he needs to keep him calm and happy - I am doing the same distance I was doing three months ago but he is much stronger now.

I am going to order the diffuser and collar. I had puppy mats but not smelly ones. I will lay obe just in case it is accidents and we need to go back a step.

Thank you all - honestly, I appreciate it.

Can you not crate him? Might be too late now if he has never been in one, but might be worth a try so that you know he is secure when you are out.

What a nightmare.

My dog used to do excitement wees until he was about 18 months old, but he was contained on hard floors so not too much of a problem.
