PVC back door & dogs scratching!

We currently have a wooden back door and the dogs have it scratched down to the bare wood in one place, they scratch it continually to get back in (poodles don't like the rain!).

My question, for those of you with PVC doors (we will be installing oak colour if that makes a difference) have your dogs been able to damage them in the same way our wooden door has suffered? I can't decide what should be stronger wood or PVC.. just worrying that they'll be wrecked in no time!

My white UPVC back door gets big dirty marks on from the dogs but no scratches. The dog has broken the catflap by continuing to squeeze through it though, nutty hound.( if you want to imagine an almost fully grown Border Collie vs a standard sized catflap, but if we leave it locked shut the cat shits in the house Sad )

My pvc back door is covered in scratches left by my long-gone, sadly-missed scruffy brown terrier. He had very thick claws and was an insistent, persistent door scrabbler but, yes, pvc can be damaged like wood.

We have a piece of perspex screwed to our back door. No more tatty looking wood or the need to paint! Grin it gets muddy and scratched but it doesn't mark as much and looks a lot better than scratched wood, if it gets really bad we can replace it.

Our perspex and our glass are badly scratched Sad

Oh dear, it seems like I need to supervise outside time now :( it's the wee one that does the most damage. I just wasn't sure if PVC would scratch, now I know. Thanks everyone for the answers.

The back door is scratched in our house but I need to come up with something to protect it when it's replaced in the big kitchen refit next year. I've seen doggy doorbells you can train the dog to press instead of scratching the door, but I think our dogs would have me running from all corners of the house to dispense treats/open doors/scratch tummies, etc. It would be like Downton Abbey, but with dogs. And less romance.

Ha ha! Downton for dogs! That's how mine would be too Grin
