Reporting to RSPCA

Please can I ask ....

If your neighbour wasn't walking his (medium sized) lovey, lively and quite young dog, would you report this to the RSPCA? Would they even be interested?

It makes me so sad each time I see the dog alone in the garden Sad

The RSPCA will not give a toss unfortunately.

GlitterySkulls · 02/03/2012 20:35

i think as long as the dog has food, water, & "adequate" shelter, there's sod-all they can do.

mind you, half the time they can't be arsed doing their job anyway, so...

suebfg · 02/03/2012 20:35

If the dog is well fed and has access to the garden, the RSPCA will not be in the slightest bit interested

Bohica · 02/03/2012 20:36

Unfortunatly I don't think they would get involved unless the dog looks malnourished or abused.

Do you have older DC that could offer to walk the dog for a £1 or something like that, you could tell them you are getting fit and would love to take their dog for a walk. Smile

I guessed you'd all say the same.... He definitely doesn't show any outward signs of ill treatment and looks a healthy weight. He's just so bored!

I'd most definitely be happy to offer to walk the dog, as would the dc's but I doubt he has even been walked on a lead or socialised with other dogs, which could make it difficult for us.

He's a really lovely border collie who, I'd imagine, would have been very easy to train as a puppy and could now be enjoying a run in the fields. What a waste!

Do you know he doesn't get walked very late at night or really early or both?

We walk our dogs at 11pm and again at 6am before work, most of our neighbours are not up to see this.

We have a border collies, he sits, lies down, gives paw and even rolls over to command but he will not in any way shape or form tolerate any other dog near him on his walk, he has his gold kennel club award would tolerate other dogs in class but outside that not a chance. After 9 years it is easier to walk him at odd hours and stress him out less.

Your neighbours could be doing this, also unless you are in all day everyday staring at the dog you can not say for definite that he is never walked. My bc is full of energy half an hour after a walk so saying the dog is lively in the garden is proof he isn't walked.

maxcliffordslovechild · 02/03/2012 22:13

I also thought my neighbours never walked their 2 energetic dog until i got a dog myself, now i bump into them quite often out walking on the hills. Try not to judge unless you know for sure.

lisaro · 02/03/2012 22:16

The RSPCA do not do anything even when a dog is being starved, because a neighbour goes and feeds it when they can. They just do not do anything, unfortunately.

trinni · 02/03/2012 22:17

I understand what you're saying Rude but I have it on good authority that he doesn't walk the dog and all the while I'm not on constant watch, I really don't believe the dog ever goes out of the garden. There is a mountain of poo bags stacked outside the back door, which is a bit of a giveaway.

Anyway, there probably isn't a great deal I can do other than try to move beyond 'nodding terms' with the bloke and see what happens.

Thanks for answering my question.
