I guess all your puppies must be coming up to a year old by now? My darling Maggie is one today and what a pleasure the last 10 months has been.

She is an absolute star with lots of friends both human and canine. She is a dream with my daughter, is great fun around the house, great out and about, very sociable and just good fun. Little beggar has slept on our bed or in her bed in our room since about 7 months when I gave up with the crate. Her recall is absolutely amazing and I am so pleased I put all that effort into training her in the early days. I can let her out of the car no lead - walk for an hour and she pops herself back into the car at the end of the walk. Being a terrier she does tend to walk about 11 miles to my three (well not walk - more zooming in and out of the woods and haring around like a loon!). She was spayed last week which took me a long time to make the decision on but in the end I figured if I wanted a puppy in the future there are plenty out there that need homes. She still digs in the garden occasionally but not often - she is great at ball throwing and running back and I am thinking of taking her to agility classes, which apparently I can do now she is a year.

She can still take her eye off the ball if there is a particularly interesting rabbit hole, but we tend to overlook that!! and she still goes mental when the door goes - causing a bit of grief because I home work!

So come and tell me about yours, we shared so much of the early days would love to know how you all are getting on.

Spam - so good to get your update! I often read posts and think afterwards I wonder what happened? I wasn't on your puppy thread last year but lurked on it as I was considering getting a puppy myself at the time. Reading about everyone's experiences filled me with a bit of trepidation but I've gone ahead and have a 16 week puppy now. I'm putting into practice a lot of the advice given on the new puppy threads. The amount of valuable advice on here is amazing, it really is. So pleased you're loving your dog. Smile

Ah.... yesbut the thread was kind of scary to someone who was thinking of getting a puppy BUT I will say the thread and all the advice on here got me through wonderfully. I cringe when I read back on the first week of getting her but that's life and we moved on Grin.

For me it's the best thing I have done for a long time, for me, for my daughter and most surprisingly my DH - he didn't want a dog but he absolutely adores Maggie it's so lovely to see them together Grin. She has changed our lives for the better!

Spam I am Envy at your perfect recall!

Our boy is one later this month and we all love him so much.

His recall is actually pretty good, but he suddenly went a bit mental at about 7 months (running off at 100mph) and it has made me lose confidence in him. I let him off the lead but I am very anxious now that he will suddenly find 5th gear and take off. The idea of letting him out of the car with no lead is hilarious! Despite my very best efforts - coming back to me is not better than another dog or whatever else he might see.

Apart from that, he has been easy peasy. We never crated him but he snuggles himself up in his blanket downstairs every night and he doesn't care if we get up early or late. He hasn't chewed anything or dug any holes. The only thing that makes him go garretty is a siren!

Spam! Hellooo!

Glad to hear that Maggie is turning into the perfect dog and I am very Envy of the recall.

Pup is growing well and turning into a lovely dog who when not chewing sticks in the lounge or walking mud about or chasing rabbits is wonderful Grin

We continued with the training classes til Silver level and whilst they were good fun I wish I had re directed the money to the GunDogs trainer we have since found as the outdoors is where the main help is still needed.

She still leaps around like well....a young springer spaniel .... when meeting new people but that will come!

The original thread was a great sounding board for me and was my first regular postings on MN and showed me how great these forums are.

I wonder how the others are?

Hi all, peppa (lunatic staffie) turned 1 earlier this week, she is beautifully trained for the most part except for the jumping up thing which is a bit of a breed problem I think as they are so energetic and friendly. We have 99% recall (please no one mention squirrels or squeaky toys) and she has a wonderful repertoire of tricks that she tries if she sees a treat in the offing.
This year has been such hard work with 4 am toilet breaks, house training, puppy training and socialising, but at the end of it we have the most wonderful dog, she has bags of personality, charms everyone she meets and is a real
Joy to own.
My only slight worry at the moment is the jaws of steel, which cost me a fortune in toys, slippers, pens and toilet roll, but it's worth it as I know one day (please lord let it be soon) she will calm down with it a little.
