Why has the MinPin suddenly become a humping nightmare?

As I type, my miniature pinscher (6yrs old) is humping the living daylights out of his blanket. In a minute I'll be serenaded by the delightful sounds of him (for want of a better phrase) licking himself off. He's doing this every day but it only started in the last month. We had him castrated when he was six months old, so that's not the solution. WTAF is going on with the little bastard?

Dunno. My dog (entire) never humped at all till he was 5 - it coincided nicely with DDs yr7 sex ed in Biology and PSHE Grin. Its infrequent and he's easily distracted from it.

So... assuming your dog hasn't taken it upon himself to provide practical demonstrations for a yr7 child, has anything changed in his regime? Wonder if an on-heat bitch in the vicinity could have set him off (I've no idea if that happens, just speculating)

Haha, no, no Yr7s here! I'm just thankful he only does it when DD1 is at preschool! If there's an on heat bitch around I've no idea where - unless it's the bloody bastard one next door who is never walked and never stops barking.

The JRT (also castrated) went humping mad when we were TTC DD1 - every month when the dreaded period arrived I already knew I wasn't pregnant because the day before the JRT would start at his blanket. Then one month I was due and the humping hadn't started - BFP! He hasn't done it since though and didn't do it when we were TTC DD2. We're not TTC now either, so that's not what's set the MinPin off. Thinking about it the only thing that's changed is that we've put the house on the market - but gawd knows why that would set him off!

He's due his jabs next week, maybe I should ask the vet.

Yes, I'd ask the vet - any inexplicable change in behaviour is worth questioning.

My last dog used to be a good period detector till we had him neutered - after that he'd occasionally start a hump, look a bit puzzled like 'I used to enjoy this but can't quite remember why' and stop, poor lad Grin
