Dog barks at everything on walks

Hello. We have adopted a four year old girl who we were told barks at other dogs when on the lead. Yep she does -also people, barked at our neighbour then quite happily let him pet her, same with a dog at the park barked like crazy but happily sniffed noses and tail wagging all the time. I am hoping someone has had/has a dog with similar traits and what is the best way of addressing this please. TIA

No ideas, as dog only barks at squirrels (or dh if he's in the garden and dog indoors!), but bumping for you Smile

She sounds lovely and friendly, if noisy!

My dog has always done this when off lead - he gets very excited and just talks away. If we give him a Kohn to carry he doesn't bark at all (or a ball), so you could try that.

Hello thanks for the replies, she is indeed lovely Elibean, loves kids was incredibly good last night though they hadnt told us crafty moo can open doors so we were somewhat suprised to find her in one of the bedrooms at 1am Grin but went back to bed when told. Caught her out when I went out to the garage as that door opens inwards!! We took her for a seven mile walk along the old railway path today, and she was much better ignored cyclists, joggers and walkers but again the doggy slanging match started. I dont think its aggression based as there is no growling and her daft tail is wagging the whole time. Was chatting to a lady with a suicidal cocker spaniel- theres always one isnt there- who decided you cant possibly mean that you really really want me to fling myself at you which left her completely Confused . Lauriefaircake I think you may just be a genius, she has a particularly ball which she idolises will try this on tonights walk- when I regain the use of my legs-and report back. Thanks again

You could try to teach her the 'watch me/look at me/leave it' command(s) and go sit outside at a nice cafe (after a long walk) and just let her see the world going past. When you notice her being interested in someone/thing you say watch me, when she does you click/treat and hopefully by then she ignores whatever caught her interest and focuses on you/treat.

Try socialisation classes too, she sounds excited to see other dogs and just wants to play, but needs to learn that not every dog wants/can play with her.

I fostered a huge lump of dog who was like this, not so much woofing, but she would drag me to get to whatever dog took her fancy, she only wanted to say hello, but when you have a mastiff wanting to say hello to everything and other doggy people with tiny dogs they are terrified!

The more I walked her, took her out and about the better she got, but it took time and lots of strength from me.

Thanks Jax, I will try to perservere with the watch me/look, she is just so obsessed with every dog Grin obviously at the moment we are new to her as well which doesnt help I am sure she must think why the hell would I listen to you? I am going to let her off tomorrow as apparently she is reliable to return to her squeaky ball, and is very good when playing with other dogs, just hates being restrained round them. I am investigating a dog training group as well.

thanks again
