My six month old Border Terrier has been limping on her front paw for a couple of days. Not flinching or yelping when the leg is examined or flexed, and ran round like a mad thing at the park with no ill effect today? It seems to be intermittent.

Do I need to take him to the vet yet or should I leave it a day or two longer?

We have insurance so it's not a question of cost but knowing our vets they will be doing a leg transplant by the end of the week :)

Any advice much appreciated.

Have you had a good look between her pads? Jasper has been known to limp when he gets crud stuck in his feet fur. Chewing gum is a bastard to get out.

I would leave it, he might have a slight sprain from running about. If it was broken you'd know. Bloody cat did this and I got a £60 bill for a consultation and a painkilling injection and anti inflammatory I jection.

Leave it for a few days I meant.

Put her on no exercise, except for on lead for wees and poos for a week and see if that helps her. No belting around the park or anything. If it is a sprain or similar, that will help the tissues heal.

If there's no obvious pain or swelling, that's likely to be pretty much all the vet will advise you to do anyway at this stage.

If that doesn't help, or anything drastically changes then I would go to the vet.

Thanks Daisy will do, just read that out and Eric looked decidedly downcast- clever dogs these Borders!! :)

One of ours does this if he hurts his paw. He holds it up in the house and limps, looking very sorry for himself, then races round madly outside. I always think that if it's serious they won't run about, and will limp inside and out.

He is very vet phobic, so I tend not to take him for simple things. I just keep him quiet for a few days, then increase the exercise for a few more, watching in case it reoccurs.

Oh poor Eric. He just won't understand why you're being so mean.

Still. It'll be character building. And just might make him better.

And don't tell him that one of my girls (dog, obv) had a best friend who was a Border. And every time didn't do what she wanted, she dragged him across the floor by his tail. He kept on coming back for more though Grin.

Quick update- no further problems and thanks for all advice:)
