After months of long debates, and decisions about getting a dog, i have found him!
I am desperate to get a chocolate lab, but I really wanted to look at rescue centers first so I never thought I would get exactly what i wanted........
But Ive found him!!!
He's an amazing 5 month old chocolate lab, who's owners have said they have to rehome him due to asthma but after speaking to the center it sounds more like its because he's an excitable dog who nips at times and basically needs training. He hasnt even been vaccinated :(

So after speaking with her she told me that there has been quite a bit of interest (because he is gorgeous) so I thought I better tell her I live in a flat.
At first she sounded quiet but asked me if I understood he would need walking at all hours, walks etc and I cant just let a door open to let him out.
I told her I appretiated that totally and having dogs before I have done this.

So the trouble is I have fallen in love with this dog and I havent even met him! His story has touched me and I really want to give him his chance in life.
I'm going to be so upset because I dont think they will consider me because I live in a flat. what do you think?? have i got a chance?
I will be moving to a house soon but that's not now :(

Hmmm....how soon is 'soon'? Would make a difference, if I was the one re-homing him, although a house move soon after moving in, for an excitable pup, doesn't sound great either.

He does sound lovely Smile

we all know that there is no problem having a dog in a flat, aslong as the dog gets sufficient exercise. but rescue centres can be too picky some times. so be prepared just in case they say no. try a breeder, abit more pricier obviously or try having a look round for a private rescue service, they do exist. me and my partner used to take in pups from all diff breed i.e dogue de bordeux to cavalier. try looking around different areas x

reason i say private is because, just like me and my partner.... some rescues dont judge and give new owners a chance!

Reputable rescues will home to people in flats but there are issues they will want to discuss with you, especially since you are going to be moving soon. Rescues don't look for obstacles, but are using their experience to think about some of the issues that commonly occur when people take on pets, and live in flats. Most importantly, unlike a house, there is much more impact on your neighbours if there are behavioural issues, or just by the dog's presence. It simply not fair on them to have a dog who is barking loudly, weeing in the hallway or tracking mud through a pristine hallway. Rescues will be working hard to avoid your dog being a "bounce" - a failed adoption is stressful and traumatic for everyone, but especially for the dog.

Firstly, and most importantly, they are going to want to see confirmation that your landlord has agreed to you having a pet - written evidence. Secondly, they will want to see that your dog can climb any stairs, and get a better understanding of the responsibilities of cleaning in communal areas such as hallways and landings. Noise is a big issue especially if the dog is going to be left for any time so they will want to discuss this with you.

To be honest, I really can't see why you can't wait until you have settled in to your new house. It is going to make dog ownership considerably easier. Also, if you are moving far, it makes sense to wait, since you will not need to go through the effort twice of finding a good local vet, training classes, dog walking areas etc.

Thankyou all for your answers.
My original plan was to wait until I moved (only locally) but I just saw him Blush
I suppose I will just have to wait and see. I will totally understand if she doesn't choose me, especially from the points you have made.
