First time in the snow?

Mouse was baffled, then enchanted, then finally got it and had a blast with kids and other dogs on the Common all morning Grin

That first step out into the garden last night was a sight though...

My kittens have had fun in it too :). Meowing away disconcertedly, but still wanted to be out in it.

Barney was a little scared last night, would go outside and run in after about 30 seconds and then cautiously put a paw out and go again!

This morning we have a completely different dog, he was crying by the door because he wanted it left open to keep running in and out! Had a half hour off lead walk over the field where he was bouncing like a bunny all the way round because he was so excited! He's now cuddled up with me on the sofa, asleep with his polar bear Grin

I can't believe how excited I got about seeing him in the snow for the first time, I was more excited than him Smile

Jasper has bounded through it like a hare, eaten it, flung it, rolled in it...and made quite a lot of it yellow

poor eric is coned and on lead walks, I feel so mean he would be loving it.

ChickensGoMeh · 05/02/2012 13:37

How is he, dita?

Our almost 13 week old puppy loved it - I was surprised as she's so small and we have around 6ins of snow here. Must admit the yellow patches detract from the normally photogenic scene out of the back window! Upside is, she's completely shattered now and snoring away in the cat's bed, feet up in the air! I know having a puppy in winter is not ideal but this morning it did feel really special to share this with her :-)

ditavonteesed · 05/02/2012 15:20

he is fine thanks, driving us mental with his cone and really cheesed off with being stuck on the lead.

Elibean · 05/02/2012 19:38

Poor Eric - glad he's on the mend.

The best fun Mouse had was probably with the sled - he suddenly realised it was a toy (albeit not his Hmm) and started biting at the snow on the runners, and trying to get the rope out of dd's hand.

Interestingly, he didn't try and play with sleds belonging to the other 3000 kids out on the Common...definitely getting more sensible!

It's not the first time our retired racer's seen snow but it's the first time he's been allowed to play in it (first winter not racing.) It brought a tear to my eye, watching him all nervous at first then going batshit round the garden with it all flinging up all powdery around him. Lovely.

Our dog was hilarious last night.

He did this newborn deer thing with his legs splayed out and rigid & came back in after 20 seconds.

Today however, he loved it. He galloped round like a loon - it was fab!

JasperJohns · 05/02/2012 21:50

I was also more excited about seeing the dog in the snow for the first time than I was with the kids.

We were taking video, photos - we don't have any 'first snow' videos of the children!

Oscar 14 month old yorkie and Gloria 8 month old jack russell followed daddy George (5yo daschund mix) around the garden. Gloria was freezing so she finally decided she liked her warm being coat getting put on her.

She's only been in the garden (she's just too little to be out in it for long) Oscar and George decided to spoil all the perfect snow in the far field Grin

Ours had a blast, bouncing around chasing snowballs, which he then couldn't find.
The downside was when he came indoors, with big balls of ice stuck like superglue to his legs and tummy. Had to defrost him in the shower with warm water.
