I am sure this will get me lynched but what do you do when you are out with your dog

and he has diarrhea?

We are scrupulous with picking up his poo but it's impossible when it's like this. DD had this problem the other day and came home in a right state because she didn't know what to do. As it was just at the end of our road I took a bucket of water out and sloshed it away, but what if it was miles away. What do you do?

I would try and get some dirt/soil to cover it up.

Failing that, knock at the closest house and ask for a jug of water - I'm sure they won't mind as the alternative is to leave disgusting-ness outside their house Wink

It's only happened to my dog when we've been on a field, so I've always covered with soil/leaves.

An all to common problem for me as I have 4 and also walk my mothers 3! I don't walk them on pavements so I havn't had to do that, but on a country track I cover it with soil and pick it up bit by bit in poo bags! If I happen to have a tissue in my pocket I will use that to 'absorb' a bit and again pick up in a bag. Never have a tissue when I need one and seem to magically produce them when I don't

Only once have I ever left a dog poo, I ran out of bags and it was well in the verge in long grass away from the track. Next day DP and DD were with me when I walked the dogs, and so when we were walking down the track I ended up on the verge as the pushchair was hogging the track.

Not only did I step in my own dogs poo but I slit in it! Karma in full motion wouldn't you say!!

I wouldn't care but I was actively looking for the poo so I could pick it up second time round!

I second Knocking on some ones door if it happens on the foot path, I reaaly can't see anyone minding.

Breitling · 02/02/2012 12:19

If it is diarrhoea and a very wet one, there is not alot you can do. I have left it, but also when I have attempted to clear it up, I have just ended up smearing it overf a much bigger area and made it worse.

Solid ones no problem but runny, you have to hope for some rain. Like you if it was very near home, I would also do the bucket of water.

ExitPursuedByaBear · 02/02/2012 12:23

Fortunately my dog usually goes in the woods/river bank etc where it is impossible to get access to pick it up. The odd runny one he has done on the canal bank I have covered with a sod of earth.

Once in a seaside town he stopped to do a poo on the pavement but fortunately it was just pure sea water that came out Confused

ChickensGoMeh · 02/02/2012 12:23

I do the 'leaves/soil' thing on very squitty poos.

Breitling · 02/02/2012 12:27

But if you do the leaves thingy, which has crossed my mind, I think then someone wont see it and will tread on it and it will squidge?

Open and above board, people will avoid.

What a conversation over lunchtime!

ChickensGoMeh · 02/02/2012 12:32

I don't just hide the evil shit in a sort of booby trap affair Grin. Although, the opportunities....

Labradorlover · 02/02/2012 13:40

When I'm walking along pavements, I use the old pre picking up advice of "kerb your dog". So they poo in the road, by the kerb. No leaving smears of shit on the pavement that way.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 02/02/2012 14:06

Take a bottle of water out with you? I'm going to start doing this, I walk the dog and push the buggy at the same time so can keep a bottle of water in the basket.
