I took on a lab x at abotu 12 months old - he was pretty bouncy and unsettled for a few months (unsurprisingly - no idea how much was unsettledness and how much was normal 12 month old lab bounce!) then calmed down, stopped chewing, grew up and was the most wonderful dog in the world Smile

Recently took on another lab x at 5.5 months: so far, ditto!

We got ours at 6 months. He was house trained but had never been in a car and rarely on a lead. In hindsight we were very lucky as he has a gorgeous nature, soft as anything. Typical lab - food is the be all. This helped with training some may say still a work in progress Grin. He never chewed anything he shouldn't though and has never 'stolen' food. Kong toys are great. Even now age 12 he still loves to play fetch in the garden more than go for a walk, unless it on a beach.

Will also depend on how your lab's life has been for the past 12 months...

We got our lab when he was 13 months. When we got him he was rubbish on his lead and barked at other dogs but was fab with the dc's, didn't jump up, was very affectionate etc. He obviously hadn't had much of a puppyhood though, it took him a while to learn how to play and once he came out of his shell he was a bit crazy for a while! He is very intelligent and seriously food motivated so was very easy to train. He is now fine with other dogs (but is still more into people than dogs) but is still quite clingy and not keen on being left on his own. He has been 100% worth the hard work though, he is now the best family dog you could hope for :)
