Help - eye drops

AAARGH! Dog has just snapped at DH and it wasn't pleasant.

She's had slightly weepy eyes for a few days - nothing major, no redness - and vet wasn't too concerned about it, but has given us some drops to use 4 times a day for 5 days.

It was going OK until this afternoon and she got really uppity about it and I managed to pour them everywhere except in her eyes. I also wasn't able to use treats as I was on my own and didn't have enough arms.

So when DH got home, we tried again and she bared her teeth at DH and then snapped at him.

I am tempted to leave it, as this was a rescue dog that took ages to allow face touching (and she still hates being touched even now) and this is setting her back big time, she won't even let her near us tonight (although I just spent 5 minutes re-conditioning her to allow me to touch her face using treats, which has helped a bit).

Anyone got any thoughts? I am tempted to just leave it. We did have a muzzle, but I lost it before I could condition her to accept wearing it.

I would leave it, and I would also ask the vet for different drops - Mouse had some you only had to use twice a day, thats half the battles!

We had no snapping, but (also rescue dog) we did have lots of fear and shaking, so I backed off and did it slowly, messing about around him with the eyedrop bottle, doing it in a chilled way with lots of treats. The first bottle I wasted masses, but it got easier and easier with practice....and less stress for Mouse, to the point where he just rolled over and looked at me with 'oh no, not again' but no protest.

Good luck!

Yeah good points, thanks for the tips. To add insult to injury, I just found a tick on her forehead and she won't let me remove it :(

Eek! I hate ticks. Never had to get one off the dog (dh is another matter - he once had one on his hairy chest Grin) so not much help, but I can see another 'face' issue is going to be tricky. Could you just stroke her head, late in the evening when she's sleepy, and deal with it somehow??
