Do any of you have experience if treating Cushings in a fairly elderly dog. Our 12yr old dashound is showing signs.

If we go through the tests and decide to treat will she benefit ie will she feel better?

Over the last 14 years I have treated several dogs with Cushings. The drugs are much better than they used to be, but no cheaper. Most dogs have a good quality of life on the drugs, but doing the ongoing monitoring is really important to prevent problems from occuring.

She is nervous of the vets so I am keen that she benefits day to day from the treatment if she is to need regular visits.

Her current quality of life is good save for her obvious appetite and thirst which occupy her every waking thought seemingly. . .but she is becoming a bit of a random puddle maker due to liquid intake being high I suppose.

We have a 12 year old Cocker with diabetes and Cushings. He was diagnosed with the diabetes this time last year and then with Cushings in August. He is fine in himself, with the treatment for the Cushings, (and thyroid tablets), but has recently had a few 'hypos', due to the diabetes.

Has your dog been tested for diabetes? If she's drinking and weeing a lot, then she should be really.

This is our second dog who has become diabetic and Cushinoid in their later years and the treatment is so much better this time around.

If you want any questions answered, feel free to PM me.
