Pup has diarrhea after castration

Sorry, me again and my PFP Grin The castration went well yesterday. He was wobbly and dopey when he came home, but ravenous. Gave him some brown rice and chicken with gravy, which he demolished. About an hour later, he ran to the back door, ran to me etc in a very urgent way. I let him out and the poor chap had rather explosive diarrhea. He came back in, I cleaned him up and he slept for the rest of the night. This morning I gave him his usual kibble for breakfast, which he scoffed down. No more squits (or any poo). I phoned the vet just to check, and they've advised giving him more chicken and rice for his tea and to keep an eye on him. Has anyone else had this after their dog had an op? I'm hoping it's just a reaction to anaesthetic/pain meds rather than a problem iyswim

My little girl has had 3 procedures recently, the 2nd 2 were surgical. After the first proper op she had very bad runs and had blood in it. Gave her chicken & rice, didn't clear up. Specialist said it was likely to be colitis caused by the stress.
She was given anti colitis tablets and improved immediately. 2 days later she was back to normal.
Don't worry too much, he's young and it's likely to be just the meds upsetting his tummy.
If it continues / gets worse / contains blood then get him to vets. But it'll probably only be colitis at worse Smile
Take care xxx

Thanks Nic. He is now farting in the most horrendous, noxious manner that he is offending himself. I have all the windows open. Other than that, though, he seems much improved.

Don't worry - my dog was also a bit runny after his op. The vet said it was a reaction to the anaesthetic and to give him fish/chicken and rice or Chappie for a day or two. Both dogs came back from their ops with a complimentary can of Hills sensitive stomach food, so I assume it's a pretty standard thing.

I also demanded nice food after I'd been in hospital (although I hope the flatulence wasn't so obvious). Wink

Glad he is improving and hope he is back to his normal self very soon.
