The grund will stand next to your leg, quite close, usually cue for an ear scritch. Then what they do is they very gradually and subtly lean into your leg, but the weight transfer is quite sneaky and gradual until after about five minutes you realise you are having to brace yourself because 30kg of large hound has now transferred most of their body weight to your leg. Meanwhile they will be looking innocent and regal (the look of supreme innocence is a particular feature. At no point will the grund acknowledge what they are doing, in any way).

Expert grunds can in fact do advanced leans incorporating a sleep module, removing up to three legs from the ground (extra points for a pedicure) and for super ninja grunds it is possible to incorporate a lean, juggling and a recital of Excelsior (bonus for a portrayal of the faithful hound) while the human lamp-post is pinned and unable to move.

My chap neither sleeps on his back nor hogs the sofa (it's a bit small for him) but he does a champion power lean. It's lovely. He presses his head against you and slowly but surely the lean follows. I have to move away quite slowly as I'm sure he will topple. At 40 kilo he's a big fella and very very affectionate.

DS1 (5) has learnt that when the dog comes to him for a cuddle he has to be either standing against a wall or in a sort of standing up brace position Blush.

He's very loving and cuddly with us all but his most favourite person is my DH and he's definitely in general more attracted to men. They'll be sipping champagne and sharing a dozen oysters together this time next year while I'm at home eating kibble and scrubbing floors! Someone on here said that it was like living with a fallen aristocrat and they were so right!

Although I'd never try and persuade anyone to get a dog I would say we love our beautiful black chap and he's been great for us all.

Off lead, my boy races up to me, then kind of handbrake turns into a lean. It's pretty impressive.

I have the biggest grin on my face right now. Hopefully I'll be getting my Grund this year Grin

shoutymamma your grund is okay off lead? I thought they were flighty things?

Can't wait for my ery own power lean :)

Duffy, yes they often do sleep on their backs - it's a wondrous thing to behold. You have to watch for ETS (Escaped Tongue Syndrome) - endless opps for comic photos of snoozing hound, legs splayed, nadgers (or what's left of them) on display like a porn star and a long pink tongue hanging out of the corner of the mouth. All usually accompanied by snoring or farting or both if you are very lucky. Grin
