Hi, need some advice please. Picked up my dogs from sitter after Christmas late on Boxing day. My youngest dog had diarrhoea the next day and then was sick - very poorly as the day progressed and was rough on Wed. too. Yesterday after not being sick for 24 hours I tried him on boiled rice (normally loves this when well) but he wasn't interested although did show interest in the pan I had cooked sausages in (didn't give him any). Have given him little bits of chicken which he has eaten - very small amounts. He had a quarter of a tin of Chappie (not the huge tin btw) this morning and has now been sick - I know it probably wasn't the best thing but he looked interested and so gave him small amounts.

I have encouraged him to drink but he hasn't wanted to from his bowl but has been drinking from the wheelbarrow in the garden when he has asked to go outside. When he was being sick I did give him 5ml syringes of water every half hour as I was concerned about dehydration - probably a bit mad. What should I be doing if anything? he looked to be perking up until the sickness this morning and isn't worse just nowhere near his normal bouncy food obsessed self.

Hate them being ill - almost as bad as dcs

I would suggest that if he has been starved for 24 hours and reintroduced carefully as it seems you have and he is still being sick you should take him to the vet. They would suggest you do exactly what you have done before they take action so you really need to see them as it hasn;t worked. Hope he is better soon. x

MrsWhitaker - do you think the Chappie might have been too rich? My other dog is fine but I am worried he might have eaten something that has really disagreed with him, like chocolate or something. I know he ate someone's sandwich at the sitters but I didn't ask what was in it.

Sorry to hear this. Hope he recovers very soon. Keeping everything crossed.

Oh no! The chappy may have been too rich to start with but obv you have been to vet now. Sorry I did not reply earlier! Hope he gets better soon. Poor chap!

I'd be worried about a blockage with those symptoms - but he's in the very best place at the moment. Fingers crossed I'm wrong!

daisy, so do i!! Dreading the bill but what do you do?

I had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who had a terrible habit of eating things he shouldn't at Christmas and after the THIRD time the vet offered to install a zip. Overall he cost us £5000 for those 3 ops alone. Sorry Harlot not gonna make you feel any better. But as Daisy says he is on the best place. Had he passed anything from the other end? People give vets a hard time for their bills but if you are unlucky enough to not be insured most vets will let you set up some kind of a payment plan. Keep us up to date and I'll keep my fingers crossed for him. x

MrsW, He had diarrhoea first, a few episodes with the worst one being on the hall carpet (why is it never the kitchen floor!) and then he was sick afterwards for about 24 hours. The house is very quiet without him but my other dog is enjoying the attention, sitting on my feet as I type.

They are blockage symptoms but not sure about the timing. I think I remember it being the other way around but it was a long time ago now. Big cuddles for the footwarmer.

Hi, he is back home with very expensive dog food and anti-biotics, quiet but eating. The bill was £400, lovely to have him back. Happy New Year
