Booking a dog friendly holiday cottage

We want to go away for a few days in Feb half term with kids and dog. I've googled and the sites that come up are, frankly, bobbins.

I could trawl the general sites and look for the tiny paw symbol on the bottom of the page... or I could just ask the Doghouse if they had found any decent places in Kent or Sussex or a site that might simply oblige my requests instead of giving me cottages in Yorkshire that look very nice but are far too far. Xmas Grin

TIA Doghouse!

Try... www.petfriendlyrentals.co.uk/search/Kent/1 they list cottages by county.... with maps of each county showing where they are - great site!!

GrimmaTheNome · 20/12/2011 20:11

My DH usually books things through Hoseasons and seems to find the dog-allowed accommodation (cottages or boats) through them easily - not sure but I think they have a 'pets allowed' filter in their search.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/12/2011 20:16

OK, that was the site I used. I entered East Sussex and it gave me Yorkshire! But Kent does work and I can see some lovely places. Maybe it just has something against Sussex...

It is a good site when it works, you are right. I particularly like the map at the top of the page. Thanks!

Ah, Hoseasons, didn't think of them. Thanks!

if you book \link{http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/giving/ourpartners/welcomecottages/\welcome cottages via Dogs Trust} 10% of your cottage rental goes to the Trust

I think all of the cottages suggested are pet-friendly with no extra charge (but some only accept 1)

centerparcs

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/12/2011 20:22

Oh, that's a good tip, thanks Ponders. I am being a bit lazy, I know, but if there's knowledge to be had, why not have it? I'd never have known about The Dog's Trust thing.

I was going to suggest the dogs trust but someone already has.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/12/2011 20:26

Yikes! Centerparks sold out already that week! Skates on!

Hi
try www.original-huts.co.uk

They have shepherd huts in Bodiam but also have 2 cottages in Camber, they are very dog friendly and yards from the beach for lovely dog walking. We stayed there in the summer and it was lovely.

Ponders · 20/12/2011 20:29

you're welcome (haha) Betsy Smile

it's a good website too, you can put in both the area & the dates you want, & your party size (& a price range if you want)

marthastew · 20/12/2011 20:36

I have stayed here with a dog

Tee hee Ponders. The Dog's Trust looks a GOER. Lots on there and all nearby.

My friend stayed in those, TuftyFinch! I love the look of it but I couldn't face it in Feb. [wuss emoticon]

ps. sorry about the link

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/12/2011 20:41

Cor, lovely places a plenty. Thanking you Doghouse!

Hollyfoot · 20/12/2011 20:44

Not really where you want to be Betsy but if anyone else is interested in Northumberland, these are wonderful if you want to take your dogs Smile

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/12/2011 20:45

Ha ha no worries mummysfunny. That is a cracking cottage - DH is not partial to Camber though. Seeing as he is outnumbered and often overruled by the canine/small boy contingent in this house and any self respecting dog/small boy would love Camber I think perhaps he'll have to forget his issues with it, whatever they are. Maybe for summer, Hollyfoot, when we have a bit longer!

Right, emailing a few links over to DH at work now, and hoping for the best. Then to clear up kitchen and get off internet before my eyes go square.

Thanks all! Lovely.
