Ok you know those buy and sell things on fb, well theres a pet 1 local to me and you can get discounts on pet food and stuff. Looking to save some money i signed up. Its also a place where people can rehome their pets. Anyway tonight when i was seeing if there was any offers i noticed there was a litter of puppies for sale. Its a cross between a mini dachshund and a cavi, so being the nosey person i am i asked how much the pups were. £350 for a crossbreed. I told the guy he was having a laugh and he said hes already sold 4 litters for the same price. After doing a bit more digging i see they have already planned to have another litter in may. They also had a litter in april. So do i contact sspca or do i just leave it.

Will watch with interest, people I know of have just got a puppy from round here and they walked through a barn full of cages of puppies of different breeds, no mum dogs to be seen, and just picked the one they liked the look of most and went home with it the same day. I don't know them well enough to say anything, not that they would listen anyway but I know where the place is, it has a sign offering at least 7 different breeds at any one time. Would reporting it to anyone make a difference. I was so Angry at them and so Sad for the dogs. (We are in 'notorious' west wales btw, something I knew nothing of until I started researching getting a dog for our family.)

Star, it sounds as though as they are over the threshold for being a licensed breeder, so get in touch with your local Council. They maintain a public register of breeders, so you could see if they are already listed, and if so can access their inspection reports. If not, then you can report it to the Trading Standards Dept who do the licensing, and ask them to investigate.

What is also a good idea is to report them to the HMRC as invariably these sorts of breeders do not declare their income as taxable, and it can be very profitable.

There is little point in contacting the SSPCA or RSPCA since they will see this as a licensing issue for the local authority, so the Council should be your first port of call. These vile places exist because sadly, many people are excited at getting a pup and do not think about where they have come from.

Lost, you are in the heartland of puppy farming. Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire are the two worst areas of Wales for this. Again, see what I said above, but do not expect miracles from Ceredigion though having said that they are not as bad as Carmarthenshire - there, the politicians are actually proud of their puppy farmers. Regrettably this will not change unless the people of Carms/Ceredigion vote in politicians who are committed to changing things. V unlikely. If you want to know more, see the Cariad Website which is the umbrella organisation campaigning for a change in the law for Wales.

We're in Pembrokeshire, I'll see who I can speak to, hopefully there will be something that can be done. The sign had been there for ages though, I was just woefully uneducated in the past. Will have a look at the organisation you mentioned too, thank you.

I will scuttle, it's a new world to me but I really don't like it, especially if it's so prevalent in this area. Bed time for me now but I will be in touch tomorrow.
