i am so Angry

why do people insist on letting their dogs off the lead IF they cannot control them!!

i have a 7 yr old cavalier king charles, she is very sweet, sticks to me like glue and has excellent recall, so i let her off the lead in the park.

another woman with 2 dogs, one some small terrier thing and a larger lab cross was coming in the other direction.

my dog saw her and stopped.

he large dog then raced over to mine, pinned her down on the floor and started attacking her.
and the woman just stood there.
it bloody ran when i went for it with my dog lead... good job or it would have got a bloody good smack with the lead.

i shouted at her and said "why dont you have it on a lead if you cant control it..."
and she just bloody stood there saying "i dont think hes bitten her"

an elderly couple in a car saw everthing, and as i left the park they asked me if she was ok...

she seems to be, she is curled up asleep, but she was scared, squealing and covered in mud.

why do people not keep dogs they cannot control on a lead? it drives me insane...

That happened to my dog once (cavalier cross). A german shepherd off the lead with the owner on his mobile phone, just ran over to my dog (who was on the lead as we were just leaving the woods) and pinned her down whilst making a terrible noise. My dog screamed and I screamed and the owner luckily managed to call his dog off. Then the owner said 'He doesn't really like small dogs'! I think I was in shock as I hardly said a thing (unlike me!) although I did suggest he kept his dog on a lead. My dog just dragged me home and lay on her mat for 45 minutes without moving - no injuries luckily just in shock I think. Ever since then she has never been keen on walking in the woods which is annoying as they are very near me.
I hope your dog is ok Vicar.

she is curled up, she seems ok, just muddy.

it just bloody annoys me. She is nervous around other dogs anyway, she was a rescue when i got her at 6 months and she had never seen another dog...

dont think this will help.

Poor thing. This annoys me too, especially as we always keep whippetty on the lead. We've had one guy whose lab came bounding up to our on-the-lead whippett (who tried to make a dash for it) and when we asked him to call his dog back he said "well it's an F*ing park isn't it?" - he then proceeded to start throwing the dog's ball at ds2 (3 yo). There is another who goes to our local park, with a staffy pup that she cannot control at all, yet every time she insists on letting the blooming dog off the lead and then screaming at it to come back Hmm.

Unfortunately whippetty was attacked soon after we first got him and can be unpredictable with other dogs as he gets nervy. With socialisation/training classes, this has improved, but every time one of these untrained, out of control dogs comes bounding over, it makes him worse again.

It's bloody infuriating but I predict that you'll shortly get at least two people saying that it's perfectly natural for offlead dogs to approach onlead ones and that if your dog doesn't like it, it obviously isn't socialised properly.

I also predict that the people who say that have got dogs they can't control properly.

well she hasnt left my side all day.

she was off her lead, but by my side when it happened, so both dogs were off leads, i have absolutely no problem with dogs being off a lead - but my problem is when they are off a lead and out of control. It didnt just approach her, it attacked her, pinned her down and went for her, and the stupid bint with it stood and watched!

still not a happy bunny....nor is my pooch.
