Please don't tell me I'm nosy but I'm genuinely concerned and not sure if or what I should do.

I'm at home all day with our pup as I'm on holiday before my maternity leave starts which I'm taking early. I get woken up by our neighbours dog howling when the last person in their house leaves for work, this usually lasts an hour. If anyone goes to their house to deliver anything, if anyone visits the houses behind ours or makes a loud noise in general then the hours worth of howling starts again. He's left from about 9 until about half 2 and I'm just concerned that he's agitated for quite a lot of this time. I've tried speaking to the neighbours about it but they just asked that I go round to see the dog when this happens. What do you advise?

my dog does this (well barks) some days, fortunately for us our neighbour works away a lot. he used to do it when he was a puppy but it stopped until now (he is fourteen). we did have an old lady report us to the RSPCA when he was a puppy and when they came out they were happy that the dog was not in any distress or neglected etc..... we leave the radio on for him when we go out to keep him company as i dont think he likes being on his own. he is not distressed when we get home and is fit and healthy (for his age). the problem with our dog is that he is quite deaf so he can't hear himself doing it, he has lots of things to entertain him but it doesnt work, i find a long walk before i go to work tires him out so he doesnt bark or bark as much.

we went through a stage where family members would pop in a couple of times during the day but it didnt work, he just waited until they went and started barking again.

THAT said, it is obviously causing a nuisance and i would perhaps mention to your neighbours that you are not happy with the noise, when your baby comes along there is a chance it will disturb him sleeping. they really should be addressing it. Like i have said i am lucky as my neighbour works away alot (months on end) but if he started to complain then i would probably have to get someone to dog sit or something.

To be honest I don't really mind the noise as it doesn't bother our dog or anything, I was just worried from the dog's point of view that he was distressed and that me going round wouldn't really solve the problem. But if you're dog is ok I'll just put it down to him being a noisy dog Smile Thanks for your reply too
