Puppy's Tasmanian Devil moments - normal? How to stop?

Our puppy is great, a happy confident little chap. He loves to play and fetch his ball etc. When he gets really overexcited he goes bananas and starts to bite your trouser leg and feet and growls madly. I am stopping it at the moment by picking him up with one hand under his tummy and holding him away from me, this seems to calm him. Obviously I am not going to be able to do this when he gets bigger (although he's only a terrier). Any advice?

We put ours straight in his crate when he went crazy. It wasmusually whenn he needed a sleep.

Ours gets put in his crate when he gets like that too, it's usually when he's overtired

I call it puppy five minutes. It's normal, excess energy, they just need to go a little crazy for 5 minutes. Can you put him outside? He'll probably run round madly with his tail between his legs, rapidly changing direction and growling. Then he'll lie down and forget it ever happened.

We call that the puppy crazies. First sign of running the wall of death means he gets shown the back door. He usually tears about like a dog possessed for five minutes, then comes in and flops in his crate Grin
