bloody van driver, upon seeing flood speeds up while grinning at me, leaving me and dogs stood on the pavement dripping from head to toe. then idiot dog owners who have no control over there dogs and allow them to approach my perfectly under control dog after I have shouted several times that she is aggresive, then procede to have a go a me because she snapped at their precious fucking pooch. it is becasue of these dog owners that I drive miles away and walk where I wont see anyone, and never hold a bloody conversation with another adult and feel really bloody lonely sometimes.
I think thats it, this is not an indication of how I feel generally, just how I feel today.

Blooming 'eck, I'm not surprised you're miffed! Stupid idiot van driver, that's an awful thing to do. And the other dog owners are stupid too - what do they expect when they have been warned?!

I hope you can have a nice cup of tea or glass of wine and relax for a bit.

scrappydoodah · 08/12/2011 16:58

Aww Dita, Hugs. That sucks. I know exactly where you're coming from (see the nervous aggression thread). I can't stand dog owners who won't put their dog on lead. It's just rude. As for van drivers. What can one say really! Grrrr

PS Started minimuu's clicker program on my snappy mutt. Here's hoping.

I have an urge to print out loads of these and hand them out to people who let their dog charge up to my on-lead dogs, one of whom has severe anxiety issues and becomes a howling lunging mess (appearing aggressive) if a dog bowls up to him head-on. We haven't had him for long, he's making excellent progress, but every time one of these dogs comes right up and launches into his face we're set back weeks of training. :(

Original blog is here.

Don't want to upset anyone, but what am I supposed to do with my 7 month puppy who is very much still being trained? His recall was great, but now he's pushing boundaries and doesn't always come. Do I never let him off lead in case we come across a dog like yours, in which case he will never learn to walk off lead? I'm really not trying to be di fficult, I just want to know so I don't inadvertently upset other dog owners.

scrappydoodah · 08/12/2011 22:01

Toboldlygo I love that flyer! I need a whole stack of those.

scrappydoodah · 08/12/2011 22:06

NotMostPeople if you see a dog ahead on-lead, you need to get your pup on-lead too. You are taller than him, so it is likely that you'll see them first and have a chance to bribe him with a treat.

If you can't get him back, be apologetic, and accept that if he gets a nip it is not the fault of the other dog owner.

greatdanelady · 08/12/2011 22:26

Let me point out my fine fellows. If the owner of any dog is off lead and proceeds to get savaged by a dog on a lead then I think you'll find that its your fault for not having control of the dog off lead and a dog warden will confirm this. If you know your dog to have nervous aggressive or aggressive full stop then muzzle it in a public place. I had a dog with nervous aggression and yes I had to deal with these tossers too, had to walk my dog at night muzzled to guarantee this didn't happen. I was advised by the vet to have him pts or never leave my property again, so night walking was the easier option as couldn't bear him not having any exercise.

greatdanelady · 08/12/2011 22:29

Notmostpeople try doing some recall on a lunge line, horse lead from scats. Keep treats on you at all times as you are going into teenager years with your dog. My dog learnt that recall was done when I had spotted something so keep doing it with treats constantly.

Scuttlebutter · 08/12/2011 23:59

Toboldlygo - that flyer is absolutely brilliant!! Thank you.

Dita, so sorry you are having a crap day. Hope a Wine or Brew has helped.

ditavonteesed · 09/12/2011 07:14

toboldlygo - I love that flyer(although it sadly sums up so many conversations).

Not most people, if you try and recall your dog, of course it doesnt always happen, the people I am moaning about are the people who just dither, or say never mind he needs to learn, things like that. my dog has actually never bitten another dog, which is something I am determined to keep true. I would put myself between my dog and yours if your recall didnt work, it helps her confidence if she thiknks I have the situation under control.

If you see a dog in the distance on lead it is polite to put your dog on lead. even more so if the dog was off lead until the owner saw you (which is what I do) and just keep on at the recall its will get back to what it was.
went to see santa in teh eveing so much cheered up, and best mate is tang me for a manicure today Smile was just very grumpy at that moment.

As for the van driver, both my dad and my best mate have told me that if I got his number I could have reported him to the police as this is classed as dangerous driving, just something to bear in mind (not sure how you get someones number while stood on the side of the road with 2 dogs).

Phew - I do try and I think it does our pup no harm to be nipped occasionally, it's how he'll learn.

I hope you have a lovely time today, the crap weather doesn't help either.

OrmIrian · 09/12/2011 10:45

I keep Harley on the lead near any dog I don't know. Not because I don't trust him to be polite but because i don't know the other dog and I don't want to have to intervene in a dog fight! Also if the other dog is off the lead and they start to play he goes DEAF! They could be the other side of the county before he realises I am not there Hmm It's a PITA but neccessary.
