SOS: Vomiting Beagle - what should I do?

Well after posting on another thread earlier today about the many reasons why the OP shouldn't get a beagle, my own little beagle decided to vomit up all his dinner tonight. That was about 2 hours ago, (about 2 hours after being fed), and he has now just vomited up again, twice. Including in his new furry basket.

He's not had any more food since dinner - it was his usual stuff - and he has plenty of water. I walked him to the vet this afternoon and he had a worm tablet (which he's had before) and wolfed it down, and didn't noticeably eat any weird stuff on the way back home. He's in good spirits, looks almost a bit embarrassed. Should I be worried - can I safely leave him to sleep by himself tonight? (pathetic doting owner).

Hi there,
Obviously veterinary advice would be best, but if he seems well in himself and isn't showing any other symptoms it might not be too much cause for concern. Is he sick often? One of my rough collies has an insanely delicate stomache.

If he is drinking water, but not constantly thirsty, and doesnt seem to have a temperature I would say you should be keeping a close eye on him tonight. He could have had a reaction to the wormer or maybe the dose was a little higher than last time.
If he seems to get worse or anything seems off though, take him to the emergency vets straight away. It's a little worrying that he has vomited so many times. You could always try calling an emergency vets, they will be able to give you some advice over the phone and will probably say monitor him and tell you to bring him in tomorrow if he is no better.

Hi, Mrsgypsy. You say he seems in good spirits, so I'd say it's probably ok to leave him tonight. I'd only really worry if he was depressed, lethargic, or continuously vomiting.

If he doesn't eat tomorrow morning (knowing he is a beagle!) I'd take him to your vet for a check up. It could have been the wormer, or a mild gastroenteritis. I'd hold fire and see how he does overnight.

Beagle vomited once during the night, and has just upchucked the small amount of food we gave him for breakfast. He still seems fine, though. Looking out the window with interest, wandered into the garden for a wee, the only thing I haven't seen is if he's done a poo as there's nothing left in him to come out that end.

I'm inclined to think it's the wormer, as he's been fine all week, but I'll call the vet this morning to talk it through.

And hire the carpet cleaner machine........ :(

Wormers often make mine throw up.

I tend to treat dogs like children, if they have just one symptom but seem very obviously well in themselves, I will give them 48 hours or so to see if it clear up by itself.

You tend to know your own dog so well and know instantly when they are 'not right' then it's straight off to the vets.

You're right Gobbler, he's fine apart from the upchucking. We just took him for a walk - well, he ran about 30 yards in front of us and we just wondered where the hell was he most of the time - which he thoroughly enjoyed. The vomiting really is an isolated symptom.

Gave him a little treat on the way back, just to see if he can keep that down.

Thanks for the help, everyone. :)
